Terrain Bonuses Large Stack

I never thought it was done by the avg described above, but then I was looking at the army info (screenshot) and it gives what looks like an avg terrain bonus to the entire stack...Forum attachment

How are unit terrain bonuses applied to a large stack?

Are only the bonuses from the 10 most effective units applied for each attack?

Or, is it an average of all units in the entire stack for that terrain? If this is the case, does that mean I could "stack" a stack to have certain units perform better on terrain they typically would receive no bonus? Something like 10 arty (0% forest terrain bonus) with 20 militia (50% forest terrain bonus) to give the arty a 33% bonus firing from the woods.

thank you!!

When it comes to damage calculation, a subset of ten units of a bigger stack is selected to do the damage. These are the units who do the most damage to the "current target" in the "current terrain". So if you have one unit with a base strength of 4 and a 50% terrain bonus, it will be selected over a unit with 5 strength and no bonus.

I think the screenshot is delusive in this context; it displays an "average" which is never actually used.

I'm 100% sure that you can't get bonuses to artillery by parking tanks with them in the plains or stuff like that.
