The point of the game is not clearly explained

Hi, my friend and I have a podcast where we review cheap / free online wargames.

I'm in my first CoW game, I have been feeling out my possibilities, learning the interface, following adviser advice, doing research, trade, building bases and units, attacked and conquered a province. I am moving my forces to best protect my resources before I begin to figure out what my strategy will be.

And I still don't know what I am doing here. AT ALL.

I am Romania, in what I think might be a tutorial game but as a first time player even that is not clear to me. Is there an Axis and an Allies here, or... ? Should I be fighting certain people and allying with others or is this just a total free for all? It looks like everyone is at peace with me except the one dude I immediately attacked just cuz I wanted to see how combat worked.

So, yeah I am asking for help. What is the grand view of this game? Usually in boardgames one of my first questions is what is the win condition, and this seems to be woefully unexplained in this game.

Questions:

- Is this really a free for all, like it looks? Can USA and Germany team up against Russia and Japan? Is there any default loyalty to one or the other side? Am I supposed to be trying to conquer the whole world with Romania?!?!?!?

- How do my friends and I join a game together?

- What is High Command? Am I supposed to be listening to that channel for big strategy orders, or... ? It is completely not explained what High Command is.

Since I am doing this for a review podcast, I don't really want to go to third party videos explaining the game. I am willing to if I have to, but shouldn't the game itself be providing these INCREDIBLY BASIC CONCEPTS to the player before just throwing them into the fight?

PS: My first impressions of the game are actually quite good, on the MECHANICS. I might / want to love this game and plan to continue muddling through. But the overview of WTF is going on here seems completely missing to me.

Your tutorial game is a real game with the added advice at the beginning.

The standard game mode is to collect enough victory points to win by yourself or with a coalition involving other players. The points requirements are listed in the newspaper.

You can make allies with whomever you wish.

There are a few team mode games where the alliances are fixed at the start of the game, but those are less common.

If you join the same game, that accomplishes the joining together part. Each game has a number that you can search for in the new game screen.

Answers are available to those who seek them. For those that don't wish to read the game manual you can always ask questions here in the forum or in the live chat in the lower left corner of the game.

I thank you for good replies. This is enough for me to move forward.

15 years of QA here, I recommend you work on your onboarding. It needs improvement IMO.
