Three questions; Convoy upkeep, anti-air, and planes vs. rockets

Does anybody with a better knowledge of the game mechanics than me know the answer to these two questions?

  1. I've noticed convoys don't have any upkeep costs. Is this because they cost nothing to field, or because they continue to use the original unit's upkeep costs? Or is their cost lower? Could I mitigate upkeep costs by keeping everything in convoy form?
  2. If I lined a "road" between two province nodes with anti-air (so a continuous line of red dots) would any hostile aircraft flying over that road automatically be engaged?
  3. With extremely convenient timing &c. can rockets shoot down a moving (not patrolling) aircraft?
If anybody can answer these, input would be most helpful

1) Good question, I will test it in the next game - did you notice a drop in the resource production at daychange?

2) Only if they get attacked the AA will react, they wont shoot airplanes just flying over, if template ( patrolling the red dots under the template will react, if directly attacked the AA in the splash range will react and by splash range I mean a radius about the size of central province dot )

3) Another good question I havent tested, can you target the planes midair? The flying bomb can be shoot down by airplanes but I dont know if you can do it the other way around unless the airplanes are on the ground.

Rockets vs moving planes.

A waste of a missile. Rockets are fire & forget. They will hit the one spot aimed at...the planes would be well out of range before the rocket arrived

As to whether the rocket could be fired at a moving plane...I'm not even going to bother testing it.

No idea about one.

For number 3, if you can perhaps shoot in like the province center it will be in just before it reaches it you could, but thatโ€™s the only likely scenario and is kinda rare. Yes though, Iโ€™ve shot cities that planes were patrolling with using ships and they do full damage (cruisers actually deal their plane damage lol) so then being in air wonโ€™t be an issue, they will still take damage. Still, Planes are too fast, enough infrastructure even allows land units to escape nuclear missiles often. It would be very hard to time it.

Can you explain what you mean by 2 though?

Ah yes, you could time it to fly over a target that you need to hit while it flyes over ( unit or center ) and the splash dmg should dmg all within the little radius. ( edit: maybe even be able to time it, while 2 units fight each other on the ground and being directly attacked by an air unit - but there is friendly fire so your ground unit would take dmg as well so you would need to look at the cost if its worth it. )

After testing it, question 1 - about consumption when you put your units into the water and they become convoys.

It has no effect. The consumption remains.

(2) is a no. AA only responds when planes are actually attacking/patrolling, not if they're just flying.

I still don't believe the answers given to (3), I don't think I ever successfully targeted enemy planes with rockets/flying bombs in my 9-year career... but it MAY be possible I guess?

Well we werenโ€™t saying it would be easy, just that if you timed it right it would happen. Still very rare, of course.
