Check your network connection, sometimes it lags and thus does not register the action, or display it.
Troops not moving
Brand new so apologies if this is stupid.
I've given infantry orders to move somewhere. When I click on the infantry it shows the movement path but the troop status says "Waiting in XYZ". The troop has been moving a lot so is it resting or should it really be moving and its just a glitch or something?

DarkSoul is likely correct. You may find that reloading the browser tab will "sync" your screen with the servers again. Likely some part of the command got lost or confused. In some cases you will need to close the browser and clear the cache when performance gets sluggish like that.

In the bottom right there is on icon with two arrows in a circle. If you are lagged out it will be spinning. If you give orders in this state it will seem that the order was executed but it will not be. This is usually the cause of the problem you described. The solution, like VolonFCW says, is to reload the game in the browser window. Any time your game sits statically for awhile this happens so, in general, it's a good idea to reload if you come back after some time away.
