Was it previously merged into a stack with another - damaged - strat bomber?
Trying to understand how bomber took damage
Situation:
I am not at war with this country or any country for that matter. I am using a strategic bomber to scout a capital pretty far away, set to patrol. The province has no AA, but even if they did, again I'm not at war with anyone.
My bomber somehow took 10 damage. The province it's based out of has no damaged buildings and the remaining 9 bombers there have taken no damage.
Would a military sabotage spy be able to do this? I've never seen an effect on one single airborne unit if so. If not, what else could it have been?

None of the above. In fact, 2 other strat bombers were stationed at the same province at 100 percent hp while this one was patrolling and suddenly was at half HP
Put a support ticket for this problem, i have no idea why this could be.

There might be a military sabotage spy at the airbase/airfield where your bomber is stationed at. Can't think of any other reason...
It did end up being a military sabotage. Crazy, but cool.
Spies can now damage combat units?
when did that happen?
I swear it was always a feature of military sabotage, but maybe I'm hallucinating...
To clarify, I'm assuming based on the following:
It was a single strat bomber, airborne, patrolling over an area I already had control of, so there is no chance of hiding militia or commando.
There was another strat bomber that was grounded at the base that took 0 damage.
It took heavy damage, like 50 percent HP.
The following day flip I discovered a military sabotage spy who had done no damage to any buildings.
