Why build industry on Day 1? and max in first week?

Why do people build industries in all their cities on day 1, then max them out by the end of the first week? Isnt that just a waste of resources?

I'm not sure if this is a serious thread or not to be honest. Unless you're blitzkrieging as Axis, your economy is your most valuable asset. It's well documented how advantageous industry is to your economy - within a 2-3 days you get your resources back, plus interest over the rest of the game. It isn't a waste of resources because over the course of the game you earn so so so much more than you have spent!

Maxing out resource production in the early game makes you better prepared economically for the late game.

Essentially, maxing as quickly as possible early game is detrimental early game (as those resources could've been used for tanks, planes and/or ships), but the long term benefit is that you will have more resources, which in a couple of days will cover the cost of the industry and get you past the breakeven point.

It depends on your neighbors. Starting without building industry on day one sets you up for failure in the late game. However so does getting overrun on day one. If I'm not getting doubled teamed or have one very good neighbor, I'm building industry. Simple as that. I don't care about getting lots of victory points quickly. This game is a marathon not a sprint. Slow and steady wins the race.

It's been over a year since I've played that map for anything other than AvA games. I imagine industry is less important because of the shorter duration of games.

Essentially, the more competitive, the more of a focus should be given to unit production rather than industrial development, if I am not mistaken?

Not necessarily; since there are a lot more rural resources tiles, rural development is pretty necessary, and if you can spare the necessary resources in the middle of the war, those tiles are worth developing. Not to mention, you will 9 times out of 10 be missing one resource from your rural tiles, so you'll need to develop industry in at least that respective city (i.e. if there is are no tiles for food, you 100% in my book should develop industry in your food city).

Iโ€™d say the shorter the map the less important industry is, because the game will end quicker, and the resources you gain back wonโ€™t matter.
