Why can't i play as Latvia in Clash of Nations map/gamemode??

Hi there to whoever is reading this, i'm a somewhat new player to CoW and i wanted to know why it isn't possible to play as Latvia in Clash of Nations?

As of now i am only Lvl. 3 and i can only play Clash of Nations and i want to play as Latvia but i can't.

And if it isn't possible to play as Latvia on other gamemodes, why?

Hi there.

There are certain nations that you can play and certain nations that you can't in CoW. In the 22p Clash of Nations Map, Latvia is one of the unplayable AI due to its unfavorable economy and small size. It would be unbalanced for weak little Latvia facing against, say, the Russian Empire.

However, in maps like the 73p All Countries All in, every country is playable, INCLUDING your aforementioned Latvia. The limitations and economical disadvantages are still there (more so as it's supposed to be historically accurate), but it's a fun experience.

A question: Are you from Latvia?

Small countries are unplayable; in most maps all playable countries start with approximately/exactly the same military size, number of provinces, and resource output. If tiny countries were playable it would be much harder to fill all the major countries in a map, which is hard enough already.

hmmm.....

I’ve tried playing one of the smallest 3 province countries in β€˜73p Event-countries:All in’, it was a terrible experience.

i was using Guatemala (below Mexico), it was terrible, except the 12k a day food production. No 1: almost no every resource. No 2: I died a few hours later, Mexico killed me.

It’s the very sad truth of small underdog countries.

That is, if Yemen is lucky. I've tried both Yemen and Oman (Oman seems to be better in resource production), and it's really hard. In my Yemen game, 4 players from the same alliance allied together. Although I allied with them as well, it was clear later on I can't compete with the Asian countries' navies (I don't think I even had a navy cos of only one Saudi oil province). As Oman, it was fun seeing my resource production go sky high, but it's all useless when you're facing a coalition made up of: Germany, USSR, Italy, France (and later Nationalist China when France went inactive).

I wish the time scale was a little faster just for this reason (although I understand why it isn't). It's difficult for me to play a match for weeks when others micromanage for like 10 hours a day, every day, because I have stuff happening on in my life.
