AA works like normal battle damage. It has a splash radius of a few kilometers. The blast radius of a nuke is much bigger. See my post on nuclear bombers.

Will stack within blast radius shoot down a nuke?
If I am nuking stack A, that has 10AA defense, but there is a larger stack B within the blast radius, which has 70AA defense. Will that stack be able to shoot down my nuke (63HP) before it hits?
