Will the Amphibious Tank Ever Become a Feature?

The new amphibious tank and flame tank are cool and all, but they will end up being extremely rare in not too long. Will they ever become features unlockable in the research tree?

No idea, but I sure hope it will!

As a producible unit with more and spread out levels called marines.

That would be my preference. Real amphibious tanks have never been very useful in any time period. Though I do appreciate the devs picking the Valentine over the Sherman; though much weaker as a tank the amphibious part of the British valentines apparently worked much better than on the DD Shermans.

Marines could just be another infantry sort, like paratroops. Having flame tanks added to the "secret" research panel could be interesting, though. Several countries operated flame tanks in WW2 and they were generally successful if a bit niche, mostly good for clearing fortified positions. In game they might have increased if somewhat ahistoric usefulness vs unarmored as a "terror" weapon. No one likes the idea of burning to death.

Thing kinda is that these tanks were just that: niche. They weren’t used in whole battalions as strategic forces, they were embedded within larger units. Having marine and maybe flamethrower forces with the same stats and R/Dable would be a lot more realistic and enjoyable imo. Special tanks were just not used often enough.

Well, at the moment the anti-fortress unit is commandos, as I see it. And they hardly ever get built. It's just simpler to drag up some artillery (any ranged, really) and blast fortresses into rubble, and unlike commandos artillery are far from a niche unit. The game certainly doesn't need another niche anti-fortress unit.
