Winning within a coalition

Hey,

Quick question, I want to double-confirm :

- I read on this forum that you cannot win as a coalition ; there is only one possible winner.

- I am told by coalition members :) that coalition smaller than 3 members can win together.

Am I being lied ?[in a 100 players map]

somehow, coalitions can't win, but if a coalition is made by 3 or less members, they can retreat when they are the last one actives, not winning as a coalition, but individual

the option to "retire" the game is available in ALL games, when 3 or less players remain active.

'retreat' is an avoidance of engagement on an individual unit level.

two concepts far removed, but close in spelling.

Currently coalition points are not totaled together when determining an out right win. To achieve the outright win you need to accumulate enough points by yourself. Based on a lot of feedback in forum and the recent survey, it appears they are reconsidering how victory would be determined in games with one or more coalitions.

And we have the same problem ... for 25 days we were only an alliance

of 7 people and we can not finish the game on the map 100 persons;

We stayed only we and nothing happens to end!

If there is anyone who can finish it;

@Marklas your top three players must collect the points and most of u need to retire or u must start a war within the 7 of u and go for top dog

For COW purposes, I thought we were using these two words more or less interchangeably. Am I missing something here?

For purposes of well-constructed English, there are differences between the way the two words are typically used in the English language, with shades of meaning. An "alliance" is a formal agreement, often in the form of an actual treaty, among allied warring partner nations to fight against a common enemy (e.g., the World War II Allies vs. the Axis powers) or even to defend each other from a hypothetical enemy (e.g., NATO vs. the USSR). A "coalition" is usually a less formal arrangement to cooperate in fighting against a common enemy, sometimes representing a temporary ad hoc understanding among the warring partners (e.g., the United States and the coalitions assembled against Iraq in the two Gulf Wars). In the first Gulf war coalition, even Syria sent significant troops to help oust the Iraqis from Kuwait, and Syria and the United States were most definitely not "allies," at least not in the sense of a long-term, formal alliance.

For COW purposes they are not interchangable. A Coalition is a formal agreement cemented through the Coalition sub-menu. It is binding in PL but non binding in regular game play as players may come and go at their discretion. An alliance is an informal agreement that will hold whatever status the players choose (share map, ROW etc.) in terms of COW.

Quite the opposite from the real world.

Also add that in CoW there are Alliances, which are not related to the games but works as a bunch of players that plays some games as a team, other games may call it Clans. As Peter says, in CoW coalitions and alliances are not interchangable.

Indeed. And quite confusing, because in my experience very few forum discussion participants and COW players are drawing that distinction in their typical use of the two words.

Here is some really good basic information along with information about various ways of ending games: Map/In-Game Rules
