AXIS vs ALLIES games- in pursuit of betterment

Fixing inadequacies

We have discovered some things in CoW that we are trying our best to make right in the 1939 scenario. They simply are VERY ahistorical. They include:

1. Too many 'spammed' light armor, aircraft & Sp.Artillery.

Most good players will mainly make these units. Infantry types simply take too much manpower for less return.

* refer to the industrial build limit post below.

2. Canada & Hungary.

We have and will make all efforts to simulate active Canada & Hungarian forces in the game. Both had over 1,000,000 men in uniform by the war's end. In our games the U.S.A. takes Canada/ helps the U.K. take Canada and Sweden plays a limited Hungary.

3. The lack of Romania.

In the 1939 scenario, Yugoslavia has to be the substitute for AXIS Romania. Romania had 1,250,000 soldiers by 1944, and are strangely not in the Scenario. Please FIX THIS CoW.

4. Corrected Starting Ships.

In 1938 the U.K. had 10 BBs (+ 1 being refurbished), Germany 2 (pocket BBs), America 4, Russia 3 BBs (old). We allow those to be quick-built and purchased at the game's start.

Game # 8 update & report

First of all thanks for all of you that played. We hope that you had a good game & overall experience.

The AXIS vs ALLIES # 8 game is winding down. It is 1948 and a ceasefire/ truce/ peace has been heavily suggested, and will probably take place. The threat of a Cold War type scenario is now a reality, with nuclear weapons threatening to destroy many millions in Europe and England.

The game was close, and could have gone either way several times. We had many grueling, bloody battles. Italy eventually took Egypt. The Soviets were defeated. There was a 'Mexican Standoff' between Germany and Britain as the U.K. had a dominant navy. Naval dominance in the Atlantic had shifted to the ALLIES favor. American forces were growing and starting to do damage and their nuclear bombers were arriving in England. The Italian remained in the Med. The scenario was changing to nuclear-based warfare.

As per the suggestions of the players, the game will be played in a more casual mode, just to gain experience.

What we're looking for players that:

1. Are active

For the most part players that play here are active. Unless you're taking a lesser role here the players that are active will usually defeat you.

2. Will post some serious articles in the Newspaper

-Get into the game. Posting in the Newspaper makes the game fun. No involvement = less fun for you and & others.

-There are no number of requirements to have to post.

-Don't use the newspaper as a chat- just pm other players.

-Don't just post silly or stupid articles there.

3. Will abide by the game's rules, to include:

-Restricted units (rockets & historically limited nukes)

-Historic build limitations (everyone)

-Historic research restrictions (Italy, Yugoslavia, Spain & Turkey)

-Lowered starting $ & resources.

4. Players that will finish a game

Industrial build limits

In pursuit of a more realistic 'force pool' of units, we are instituting the rule that each country may build armor & planes at certain cities. This will eliminate mass :spam: light tanks and aircraft, which happens every game. Players will actually build infantry.

You are welcome to give your input. Post as a reply below.

Industries Available To Be Used To Build Armor and Aircraft.

Note that Armor includes tank destroyers, Sp. Artillery and Sp.AAA (Sp.Arty & Sp.AAA made at a 2 for 1 ratio).

1941 Aircraft Industry- 2

1942 Aircraft Industry- 3

Aircraft Industry- 1943- unlimited

U.S. production notes:

- The equivalent of only 2 armored Corps were created by 1940.

- Many airplanes went to the Pacific Theater.

- 104,000 aircraft produced in 1944, 96K in 1945

U.K.

Armor Industry- 1

AND 1 Tank Destroyer per year (11 Bdes)

Aircraft Industry- 3

U.K. Notes:

-The 11 'independent armor brigades' are simulated by limited TD production at a 1 TD per year production allowance. Reasoning- high AT value, low (non-infantry supported) anti-infantry value.

France

Armor Industry- 1 Note many tanks were spread out in the Infantry Corps, used defensively & as infantry support.

Aircraft Industry- 4

AXIS

Germany

Armor Industry- 2

Aircraft Industry- 4

Notes:

- [limited early builds] (includes the value for smaller units, combined arms, local, divisional & corps leadership, armor theory, acquired skill, morale & SS units). Note that advantageous armor build of 2 are incrementally reduced if armor units are destroyed.

- Aircraft production of 4 simulates the 70,000 WW2 aerial victories allowance)

- Advantageous aircraft builds are incrementally reduced if aircraft squadrons are destroyed.

- Examples- Hans Rudel destroyed 519 tanks & 800 vehicles. Hartmann shot down 352 ALLIED aircraft.

Italy

Armor Industry- (1 armor per year)

Aircraft Industry- 1

Notes:

- 3,368 tanks produced in WW2. That's a MAXIMUM total of 5 armored Corps (note the starting armor + 1 armor Corps per year should = that). By comparison America & Russia produced over 100K.

- It is Estimated however that had the war continuted and Italy not have been bombed that up to 6,000 tanks might have been produced.

Yugoslavia Infantry (Belgrade) & militia only, until other factories are taken.

WW2 Unit Comparisons:

Russia:

23 Armored Corps

2 Mot. Corps (mostly American lend-lease trucks)

44 Cavalry Corps (probably simulated by lvl-1 mot. infantry)

136 Infantry Corps

41 Guards (Commandos?) 177 TOTAL

158,218 Aircraft

Germany:

19 Panzer Corps + 5 SS Panzer Corps * note would have been higer if not for loss of territory & ALLIED bombing.

14 Motorized Corps

94 Infantry Corps

6 Mountain + 8SS

119,871 Aircraft * note this is a severely depleted amount after loss of territory and ALLIED bombing.

America:

5.3 Armored Corps

2 Motorized Corps

2 Mot. Corps (America chose to Lend-Lease these to Russia)

25 Infantry Corps

2 Airborne

303,713 Aircraft * note that the U.S. did not reach 'mass' production levels until 1943

British:

* 4 Armored Corps (+ 11 Independent Brigades [approximately 3 corps worth])

No Mot. Corps (1 Cav. division only)

14 Infantry Corps

* The British used armor Bdes (11 armored + 11 tank Bdes [Bde's are small independent units- about 4 armored corps in total MINUS the inherent infantry-so bad anti-infantry value?])

131,549 Aircraft

Italy:

2 Armored Corps * note would have been higer if not for surrender in mid-1943 & ALLIED bombing.

1 Cav. Corps

4 Motorized

25 Infantry

24 militia

2 Mountain/2

18,000 Aircraft

French: In 1940-

at BEST 2x Medium armor Coprs (4 armored divisions)

6 (motorized inf.) calvary units.

4360 Aircraft (by May 1940)

Note that both Germany & Italy would have built more AFVs by the end of the war if not for territorial loss & ALLIED bombing. Estimated builds are listed for German & Italy.
