What year to start in Alternate 1914

What year should the roleplay start in? I originally thought to make it 1914 without the say of the people, but I decieded to try my hand in democracy.

I myself have no idea what's happening exactly in those years other than wars...

If I were to choose without considering without knowing the history of that years, I'll consider myself a spectator...

So I'll just follow the majority of the votes since I know absolutely nothing on the timeline...
I realized the power I held, Power! The power to rule! To make the world grovel at my feet!
We will begin with a reign of terror. A few murders here and there, murders of great men, murders of little men, just to show we make no distinction.

Just because they has some influence over the garrison doesn’t mean they could coup the Ottoman Empire at will. The Turks could easily oust the Germans at any time, and the soldiers would be loyal to the sultan. They also don’t control the taxes, resources, population and more of the city.
Agreed then.

Great more taxation without representation
What were you expecting? Representation! You are obviously not a blue-blooded, well-bred, gentile person of royal descent!

No Taxation without Representation was a slogan first used in the English Civil War, not the American Revolutionary War

Dude you lost to a bunch of colonists

More like they lost to a bunch of colonists an ocean away commanded by one of the better generals of the era and while fighting by 3 other major powers at the same time.

Your forgetting that the British had one of the best armies

Britain had the strongest army in the world - but they were fighting against the 2nd strongest (France), who were also supporting the Americans across an entire ocean.

This is incorrect. The French, Russian, Prussian, arguably even the Ottomans and Austrians had much larger and stronger armies. Britain had the best fleet. Of course they were fighting the second and third best along with the strong Dutch fleet at the same time.

Their army was actually quite poorly drilled and rather undisciplined for the time at the start of the war. It improved as it went on, though it was still behind the French.

Ah I meant military in general. I always do that. Britain had the strongest military overall…

That’s somewhat debatable at first, since their poorly drilled and some land force at the start really weighed down their navy, allowing dance with a great navy and super strong army to beat UK with a decent army and Super strong navy. As they grew in size and training though, combined with their performance against a major rebellion and 3 world powers, I’d be inclined to agree. They remained the stringers military up until Napoleon.

Carking,

you do realize that the British army in ww1 was one of the most effective armies in the war

Perhaps… but they knuckled down essentially after 1801, to form a formal coalition to defeat napoleon. They were certainly the richest nation, and could use that to their advantage, and did.

is this sarcasm? The french did better for the first 2 years of ww1. At least they ran across the trenches!

Let’s stand in lines and get shot at

Germany was definitely more powerful. They managed to defeat Russia, and almost break France a Britain at the same time, while having to prop up their useless allies. Had this been Germany alone VS. France and Russia, I think they would have won.

Still, it took a coalition to bring them down. The UK alone probably was weaker. At least until after 1812.

Not against napoleon - they just didn’t have enough interests there. Napoleon was an insanely good general - with anyone else, the British would just win by default. Essentially the first french revolutionary war was won by napoleon because there was no solid coalition against them, and the British didn’t commit enough. Perhaps you’re right but I would argue for britain being stronger.

in any case, britain were the undisputed strongest power until around the 1930s

Have a blessed day <3
