World War 2 Roleplay - Applications & Questions

I am going to attempt to start a 1939 Historic World War Roleplay.

This is because from my experience and others', Roleplays can be very enjoyable, and the most recent attempts at creating RPs have failed, so I am creating this new RP separate from the previous ideas.

A Rules Thread will be published once there are enough players, ideally, I would like at least 20 people, ideally 28. Since some nations are not essential, and will only become available if there are more applications than countries.

Major powers or important countries will be limited to experienced players to ensure high-quality roleplay, however, you may still apply for these positions.

The Game will last for 70 days before automatically ending unless we agree to finish earlier than this.

I am afraid I have also reserved the UK for myself, sorry.

Blue text means their application has been accepted, and purple text means the applicant is confirmed as that country:

List of available countries:

- United Kingdom - @Zaktty

- USA - @Carking the 6th

- France - @Donk2.0

- Soviet Union - @Fox-Company

- Japan - @Claudio NVKP

- Nationalist China - @Lord Crayfish

- Italy - @The Mister Class

- Brazil - @SamPGS_17

- German Empire - @Talvisota

- Netherlands - @VietnamVeteran69

- Canada - @JASLOLY

- British India - @Lt.Rohini

- Australia - @GeneralTanke

- Turkey - @TheZhukov

- Yugoslavia - @NEPTUNE the great

- Spain - @That polish guy

- Poland - @russ_russ1 was going to be @GreatbigHippo

- Romania - @KaiserOfAnonymous

- South Africa - @Tolol_aja

- Sweden - @noblebright

- Venezuela - @-VIP-

- Peru - @Lady Aragosta

- Argentina - @Taffyta Muttonfudge

- Persia - @SADRA_ready

- Manchukuo - @Amotah or @AleksanderZ was going to be @CMDR. Wolf

- Mexico - @Kadeko

- British Egypt - @Fortnite69 420 was going to be @Joe Bartolozzi

- Mongolia - @Soviet onion republic

- Tibet - @ChessSamurai1999

- Xinjiang - @RookOnzo

APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.

Colonies, such as India and Canada, will start the game as subservient to their master nation (UK or Japan), which will be able to boss them around, but if they slowly build up, and Roleplay properly they will be able to gain independence.

The game will start exactly (or as close as we can reasonably get to) as the world was in January 1939. So different countries start allied with each other, e.g. Italy and Germany

time inside the game will pass daily, e.g. each day is 6 months, as it is supposed to be by the research tree, this may be decreased to 3 or 4 month days because I am unaware of how long this HWW Map will last.

Countries will also be required to set their relations to other countries as shown in the graph below.

I did want Nationalist China, but it really depends. You did seem to lay claims to it first.IDK
What should we do now?

I couldn't fight a crayfish...or tell you the fact that I do love eating shrimps...

I realized the power I held, Power! The power to rule! To make the world grovel at my feet!
We will begin with a reign of terror. A few murders here and there, murders of great men, murders of little men, just to show we make no distinction.

A pretty mechanical toy [...] the war will never be won by such machines.

May I suggest the factions Axis, Allied, Comintern (not meant to correspond to doctrines really) and non-aligned?

Countries may change factions, but not without a good reason; a sound defeat e.g. Italy in 1943, or being attacked, e.g. the USA in late 1941, etc.

I am not sure what these groups ought to be. But this would add realism and prevent chaos. Just an idea.

No factions, we can afford to not have these, just allow countries to make their own factions instead. As long as they don’t all combine into one huge one we will be fine.

Fair enough. Of course @Zaktty should decide, but should there be rules about what kinds of alliances and with whom are allowed?

Perhaps a neutral admin can oversee it.

Now that I think about it I’m probably overreacting… just as long as we don’t have one huge organized major power bloc we should be fine.

I will recreate the Iron Curtain over Europe.

Is @Zaktty even online? I don’t think he’s replied to this thread for a day.

Looking for improvement.

I have to say I'm pretty interested in joining this, should be a lot of fun but I can't in next two weeks.

Since I assume the Soviet Union is taken, I should very much like to join as Nationalist China provided that roleplay rather than expediency-at-cost-of-realism competitivity is preferred.

As to suitability, I expect I could do a pretty convincing RP as the Guómíndǎng more so than Sweden. I feel it is far easier to act in-character with a country I am more familiar with the history of.

If this is impossible, I should like the Netherlands but it really depends. I can play either convincingly.

So yeah:

First choice: Nationalist China

Second choice: Netherlands

Third choice: Australia

Two questions though:

(1) Is this meant to be a reenactment of the Second World War, viz. everything happens to the most of our ability, as in the real timeline? or more of an alternate-history?

(2) If the latter, to what extent are we to remain in character or also to be realistic? Italy turning communist on Day Three for example. What is allowed in this regard?

Accepted, you can run against Kadeko for China, or of course the Netherlands

1) No, it is not a WW2 re-enactment, it just starts exactly in 1939 as things at the time exactly were.

2) Changing ideology will be fine, but not as early as Day 3, I will likely decide different amounts of time for different countries, and there won't be fixed factions like in previous roleplays, it will be up to moderators whether they will force anyone onto a team, and that will only be done to stop the game becoming boring quickly.

I do like this, however, I think a major bonus of this game could be a high level of freedom.

Here's the current iteration of my "relations" chart (too big to make as table on the Forum) (feel free to criticise as it's not perfect; the aim is to be as accurate as possible):

Notation of relations:

SHM - Shared map, ROW - Right of Way, TRD - Trade embargo, WAR - War. Peace by default.Forum attachment

Notes:

* - China and Tibet have Right of Way relations with several European powers through "treaty ports" or concessions which still applied in 1939. Except in the case of the Soviet Union (see Sino-Soviet Pact) these are unilateral. Similar case in Persia due to the Anglo-Persian Agreement.

† In case of bilateral relations of Poland with UK and France: Anglo-Polish agreement is only formally signed in March but cooperation and alliance negotiations were being made.

†† Although the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis was ratified only in September 1940 a de facto alliance existed. Relations between Germany and both Romania and the Empire of Japan and were already strong since 1938 due to Ribbentrop's policies.

** In case of Tibet and Xinjiang, Chinese suzerainty applies

This is incredible

Carking the 6th wrote:

I think European axis and Japan would not have share map. They didn’t coordinate much, did not truly work together, and kept a lot secret from each other. If they have share map, then Poland and the Allies who actually planned somewhat for a German attack should have it too.
Resolution will be made: Empire of Japan and puppets (Manchukuo) will have ROW only with these powers at least in 1939. Good point.Poland would not have Shared Map with Britain yet if this begins in January, however they would by the end of Day One if it goes as in OT.

Carking the 6th wrote:

Another thing is that Persia should have ROW with the UK, right? As you mentioned the Anglo-Persian agreement, the UK had rights to much of Persian oil and had plenty of influence there, enough to make a combined invasion with the USSR pretty easy.
Thanks you, Persia not getting UK RoW is deliberate. Persia and the UK did not sign an equal treaty but a British hegemony in Persia. Britain had the right to survey and build railroads and invest in it. As you say pressure on Russia was another reason. This is more like the treaties between China and the western powers after the Boxer Rebellion.
Due to these reasons, I am very sorry to @Kadeko but China will go to Lord Crayfish for the amount of work he has already put in, and the commitment he seems to already have, it is not that I feel Kadeko, that you don't have that, but purely because I think Crayfish deserves it.

Cant wait to reform the glorious USSR and turn it to its former glory- *ahem* i mean, make it more glorious, it has never once dipped in power or strength, always gone up!

Crayfish that that he would let her have it if she wanted, his choice then.

a blue name on the first post means accepted application, whereas a purple one means confirmed.

Well… crayfish is not confirmed yet, as Kadeko would still want to contest it, and He said that he’d be willing to let Kadeko have it
