We don’t have the 30 players though… and what if someone can not join? Maybe it’s best to just go with the 9th or 12th and try out best there.

The reality is, if you join late, you’ll get a slight disadvantage. It’s not anyone’s fault necessarily if they do - I’ll probably join a few hours late - but in the long run, let’s be honest, 500 food here or there won’t make a massive difference. Make up for it with diplomacy and trading etc!
