A "BEST OF" thread in the forums.

I'm thinking something fun might be adding a (perhaps sticky'd) thread in the forums for players to submit "best of" nominations for things such as newspaper articles and forum posts.

I know I've seen some really impressive and very amusing newspaper articles. Problem is, only the few players in that map ever see them.

If we had such a feature "Vote for best" that would send a copy of the article to the forum thread, not only would it likely generate more interest in using the paper, but the rest of the gaming community would be able to appreciate the article too. Kind of a "wall of fame" thing, or the opposite of the "report article" button that would instead of report bad articles to admins, it would submit good articles to the "best of" thread/contest.

It could also include "best of" for forum posts.

It could evolve into a "monthly player vote" type of contest for whoever desires to vote for their favorite of the submissions that were nominated.

I would be curious to see well written articles for the in-game newspaper. Virtually all the articles I have seen fall into one of two categories:

1. lame; or

2. taunting.

Ouch.

I hope my articles don't fall into those categories.

I hope so too.

;)

Actually, what I would really like is the ability to read the newspapers of active games.

I realize being able to see the map (with units) would be a problem but reading the paper would give me an idea if I want to jump in on a game that is already ongoing. It would also be fun to follow along some of the more (in)famous players in their games.

I will nominate this, which was posted today by one of our coalition (not me) in the players league February game, and shows that some of the players out there are very dignified in both victory and defeat. I think she did a very nice post. Well said. I will withhold her identity unless she wishes otherwise.

"Before this game ends, I just wanted to make one public comment that I think should be said. We will gauge this game's victors and losers based on a final point tally, but apart from that, I would like to say this.

No matter the points, Mark, your play in this game was excellent, your defense against overwhelming odds keep a large coalition scrambling for a good time, figuring out a way to punch through it. No matter the outcome of the points and what they say, I will say I think you were the best player in this game.

Kudos to everyone else for a fun campaign and I look forward to next month, hopefully a full board and a chance to give these new rules a more fair testing."

Peter Mat, how were you able to transfer that from the paper to here? I cannot copy/paste anything form the paper, emails, anything in game.

And Yes, I agree that was a very classy message. 99% of anything I post in the paper is going to be "In character" but a post like that is good stuff just player to players. I'd vote for it!

F. Marion, Yes! That would be great! That way, if we could read the paper without having to join the game, (or if the game is full never be able to read it at all), then at least we could post the map ID# here and reference which days to look at.

It would also allow some "remember that game when..." story telling.

I could even imagine every player profile having a link to the paper for each game they were in. That might start some community policing by reputation!

MrFititNC, all I did was left click highlight, control C, then control v when I replied to this thread. Somethings just work better with a mouse. I would not be able to do that with my tablet (no mouse).
