A "Stop" Button

We could use a "Stop" button which would cancel all orders like marching or firing. There are times when you see an enemy unit heading toward one of your units who is heading right into the enemy. I want my unit to stop and wait for the enemy to approach him so that my artillery behind my unit can catch up and join the fight.

If I click on my infantry to move back the other way, he'll cross over the artillery and end behind my artillery instead of in front of it where he can fight the enemy.

A "Stop" button would be helpful in this and other cases.

It is a stop button, not retreat...

A "retreat" option has been asked for since S1914. While it is odd to imagine armies not being able to break from an engagement we are all confined to this rule. A "stop" button on the other hand is simply increased functionality within the scope of the games rule-set. I don't know that a retreat option is needed or desired as there is already too much micro-managing in conflicts. Personally, I like the ability to pin an enemy force as that means the maneuvering up to the point of contact has some meaning. Even if there is a consequence to a "retreat" such as a sacrificial lamb or three, it is going to add to the problem, as I see it, of constant monitoring and adjustment in a game.

A stop-button or command is simply a necessity. It is ridiculous I have to fool around for 5 minutes to get a unit to stop in a certain place.

It is not a necessity. Why would you need them to stop anyway? All my forces do is advance or fall back and that seems to do just fine.
