A Suggestion

I am not trying to be condescending but their is a serious flaw with the warning. When a warning is given to the person the Mod should wait a few moments because the accused offender might still be typing and obviously not reading. Also sometimes as soon as the mod presses enter to post the warning the user almost simultaneously posts as well and would get banned. Also when the chat is busy, their might be a combination of the user typing and the warning of the mod disappearing and the user might not even scroll up to see.

What are your opniouns mods.

Tbh it would be easier just to give the offender another chance, so they get two warnings. Go for a three strikes kinda thing. Not sure how it runs already though.

Seems good.

I always try to private message the offender after the public warning is given. It helps alleviate confusion in a well-mannered fashion.

Is this company policy or a personal habit?

Personal habit.

Very thoughtful of you so, would be much better if all staff did it.

Probably best mod ever.

There is no requirement to warn prior to banning

The rules

https://forum.callofwar.com/index.php?thread/5-chat-rules/

clearly state:

Pathos wrote:

In order to maintain a positive atmosphere a number of subjects are strictly prohibited. These include but are not limited to:

Glorification or advocation of Nazism.

The making of racist, sexist, homophobic or extremist statements

Glorification or advocation of violence, drugs or pornography.

The use of swear words and cursing in general.

Denigration of one particular nation (nation bashing)

This also applies to links or quotes which distribute such content, or identifying with their ideas.

Discussions that deal with politics, ideology and similar controversial topics are to be performed with extra care and with sensitivity. Such issues can quickly lead to bitter disputes, and moderators will stop the discussion if they feel it is about to escalate or has escalated.

I draw your attention to the first line: Strictly Prohibited!

You should note that nowhere does not say that you have to break these rules twice before action is taken.

Further down in the chat rules is the section about warnings. Take note of the order in which these are presented. The prohibited actions are defined first, and after that is a section for rules not defined prior. This is the way all such documents are written. Rules are defined, followed by additional rules, clarifications, and possibly exceptions. The highest rule must be followed first in the same way that a math equation must have an order of operations.

Please note that warnings are based solely on moderator discretion, and immediate removal from chat is always an option.

So to summarize: Warnings are polite, but even if a moderator gives you a warning they can also make judgement that rules were broken and action will be taken, regardless of reaction to a warning.

There is also no statute of limitations. Action can be taken on comments hours and days after the fact.

It is policy to send a private message notifying users about a ban. This will be sent to the users mailbox on the main page explaining the length of ban, rule broken, and who to contact with questions or appeals.

We are not debating the current rules and what they mean, we are discussing whether or not they should be altered. Though since users get a message to their inbox about it, I am satisfied.

I know I am going out of topic but, do you suppose you could tell me how to get a moving picture attached to every post.

I'd also like to master such word art Varlon flexes around. I don't want to be the newbie.

The thread purpose has been satisfied, and no further discussion is required. Closing thread.
