Considering how crucial aircraft can be on this game, and the fact that you can build fortifications, there should also be AA installations to help guard against aircraft.

It is an interesting suggestion.
"I came, I saw, I conquered" Written in a report to Rome 47 B.C., after conquering Pharnaces at Zela in Asia Minor in just five days; as quoted in Life of Caesar by Plutarch; reported to have been inscribed on one of the decorated wagons in the Pontic triumph, in Lives of the Twelve Caesars, Julius, by Suetonius. "Alea iacta est" Gaius Julius Caesar.

I think fortifications do damage against aircraft, I might be wrong.

there is alrealy the flack. do you want a higher armored defense? that would be unrealistic and overpower. since ww2 there is no efective protection against a plane bomb that is not evading or destroying the plane. so thumbs down to AA defenses.
also the game follows the logic that you need to spend precious minerals to reserch the production of anything that can cause damage to anything. even the fortress is only more defense, it doesnt cause damage. to it would be overpower

I disagree. I'm not asking for over powered or higher armored defense. That is not at all what I am asking for. I'm talking about Anti Aircraft installations. Stationary defenses against air like fortifications. Air fortifications. This IS realistic. This was commonly done in real life.
Also, an idea, is that the research down to basic AA/SP-AA can also upgrade AA Installations. OR just make it a standard thing to build in a province at the start like fortifications since you do not have to research fortifications.
This is in no way unrealistic nor over powered. If you have a major industrial zone, why wouldn't you therefore want to build Anti-Aircraft installations there?

Interesting idea, but it shouldn't be as effective as the AA battalion should, maybe a slowly scaling number from 0.4 to 2.0 with fortification levels (bearing in mind that the fort does come with its own defence bonuses).
I'm wondering about implementation, because it would most likely turn up as a unit, have to have HP etc.
It would just be much easier and more effective to just move an AA to a city you want to protect

So you want to build the installation then equip it from AA research levels? Would it require an AA unit for each 'opening' in the installation? (See below) Or would it come equipped with AA that has been researched and upgrades as other units do? I like the idea but brings up some questions.

The research branch to my suggestion was just an idea. Someone brought up the spending of precious materials on research for this. My response was that you could incorporate the AA research already in the game to the advancement of installations. It is the same technology afterall. Just one is mobile the other is stationary.

Couldn't you just place normal AA units in a fortified area? It would be the same effect.

Isn't that what AA does anyway?

Of course you could. But what if you would rather that mobile AA unit be with your front line forces to deal with tactical bombers hitting your attacking armies?

it is not a question of whether you want the mobile AA in the frontlines! if you are going to spend on a fixed AA position anyway, then adding a mobile unit to a fortress is per definition smarter, since, by the time you have expanded and the fixed AA would be useless, at least the mobile AA can be moved out to the next fortress...
fixed AA seems like a total waste of resources to me.
