Well, most armies did organize their infantry divisions around the equivalent of three infantry regiments, an artillery regiment (2 to 4 arty battalions), and organic companies for headquarters, signals, intelligence, engineers, etc. The Call of War naming hierarchy for unit stacks is somewhat misplaced. The presence of one arty regiment among three infantry regiments does not create an "artillery division" in the real world, nor does one medium tank brigade among three infantry regiments create an "armored division." In the modern world, most divisions are organized as mixed combat arms formations in which infantry is the predominant component, and specialized armor divisions are a combination of tank, mechanized infantry and self-propelled artillery units.SuomiHunajaa wrote:
I think it would be cool to to able to group three Inf Reg with an AA unit and and Arty Reg and still be able to call it an Inf Div.
Ability to rename units
Alright, I just had a small idea that came to me when I was planning an Operation. I wanted the ability to rename my units, what this means is instead of the 2nd Light Tank Division, I could rename it to the 2nd Replacement Depot. I usually have groups of 6 invading then I have another replacement division on standby so that I can send battalions to divisions that need them. Or, You could rename the fighting divisions to more comprehensible names, easier for the player to manage. I would like this to be implemented because it seems like a good idea to me. Now, of course I realize that players could name them abusive things but those units could just be A. Wiped off the map or B. Just report the player to Bytro and have them suspended or banned. Just a small and kinda cool suggestion I thought should be added. OH Just one more thing for clarification, when the unit is produced, it will have its original name then you can rename it, and also when the paper reports its death it should use the name you named it to, if at all possible.

Exactly my point. Especially with a continuity or a tradition of unit history. You know, campaign and battle honours etc.MontanaBB wrote:

Right, I totally agree with you MontanaBB. Medium Tanks mixed with 3 Infantry wouldn't be an armored division.
In the modern U.S. Army, that's called an "infantry division," and almost all non-airborne, non-special forces infantry is mechanized. They ride into battle in Bradley AFV or Strykers, and dismount when necessary to fight. And all infantry divisions will have some organic armor (i.e. tank) units. I'll see if I can find their current organization charts, but I would not be surprised to discover that even the 82nd and 101st Airborne have organic armor units.JCS Darragh wrote:

82nd I believe has an organic armor unit. My father worked with them as an Aircrew guy for the Air Force (Go Airpower), back in the day they had M551 Sheridans and M113s that could be airdropped from the C-141s, now I believe they have M1 Abrams and Strykers. They also have organic artillery units and the 82nd is mainly motorized infantry. The 101st just has uh, mechanized and lots of helicopters due to the fact they are now Air Assault so idk too much about Air Assault. 173rd is a lot like 82nd and the 101st. I would still like to look at all those organization charts so I can use them for uh, ArmA..
i know im very late, but ive got a "light tank division" that has only 3 out of 22 units being light tanks. ive been collecting units for days for a major assault of europe (im venezuela and have conquered all of SA, NZ and australia), and by the time all the units get there, it will have more than 100 units, and will still be called the 28th light tank division. some reasons i would rename a unit would be to remind myself not to remove the arty from panama, mark my 100 unit horde as "death", and to give my naval units better identifiers.
