I think that the ads are a little excessive. I get a pop-up ad ever 1 minute or so, and it really takes away from the game. I get it, it is a free game, you need to make money, I just think that it is excessive. I never used to get them, and I am on PC.

Do you mean the ads that pop out from the side that advertise products or the ads that urge you to buy gold and stuff?
you do realize those “ads” if you watch them you get free gold if that’s what you mean. I’m not sure what else you could really mean.

He means the promotional ads that pop-up saying things like "25% off if you buy within 10 minutes" etc.

If you get high command they go away which is a nice feature. I mean, what free-to-play game doesn't have pop promotions for their in-game products though? It's a good way to market or they wouldn't be doing it.
I won't pretend to think that those pop-ups happening a lot if fun however. Would be nice if it only happened once a day instead of multiple times, I know the feeling.

Those gold promotions that pop up are generated automatically in games where a lot of gold is being used. It's an incentive for other buyers to buy gold too and to play gold vs gold. So if you get a lot of gold advertisement in your game be prepared for a tough war.
