Artillery misfire

Not sure if this is an issue with anyone but I was neutral with another nation until my artillery for some reason attacked them. The artillery are bombarding the enemies which also at the same time lock into combat with the neutral nation. I have no intention of combating the neutral nation but it said I attack the neutral nation in the news paper even though the artillery are supposed to attack the enemies. Not the neutral nation. Any idea on what is going on?

Your artillery default setting IS to attack enemies. I believe you might have set fire control to aggressive fire (if you currently have High Command/Premium). Aggressive fire allows the artillery to fire at any unit, enemy or not. You can check by clicking on the artillery and see if that is the case. :)

Artillery has splash damage. If you fired on an enemy in melee combat, or very close proximity, to a neutral it will fire in both. Coalition partners are safe, but that’s it. Even if you have ROW or map share the slash damage will hit that unit too. I learned this lesson the hard way once.

If it’s an active player, you can just offer peace and explain what happened. Unfortunately with AI, that’s not an option.

Ahh I see. Thanks for the explanation.

New information me to.

So Artillery does have friendlyfire your own and coalition troops ONLY?

Your own and coalition partners are the only ones that are safe from friendly fire. If your enemy is locked in melee combat and your fleet bombards them, you’ll end up sneak attacking the neutral country, even if you have a map share with them.
