Aurcraft Ranges

I'm puzzled by the maximum ranges of different aircraft:

Interceptor - 500

Tactical Bomber - 688

Strategic Bomber - 625

Naval Bomber - 438

I would have expected the Tactical Bomber to have a range not much greater than the Interceptor, as it is intended for attacks on ground targets on or just behind the front lines. The Strategic and Naval Bombers I would have expected to have much longer ranges by contrast as intended to hit cities and patrol seas far from occupied territory.

I say "intended", I mean that this is how I see the aircraft as working in the game as well as historically.

Is there any case for adjusting the relative ranges accordingly?

It isn't the main goal of the toppic but I would like to say that for relocate planes to another airport it would be good to have no limit of range or at least 2x the normal atack range since the plane isn't supposed to come back without refueling, unlike when it's atacking.

Sounds good. I also thought of suggesting that a bomber aircraft on Patrol has a longer range than the same on Attack but carries only half the bombload, so that there is a clear choice between recon and strike missions.

In any case the maximum ranges as they stand now don't make much sense to me. My level 1 Naval Bomber, which I envisaged searching the Gulf of Bothnia from Danzig for potential hostile activity, is about good for Novelty Trips Round the Seaside with the range it has.

Well, naval bombers did have notoriously short ranges to begin with, as they level up Im sure theyll get better :)

Sadly they don't - I quoted the maximum range for all aircraft at Lvl 6 ;(

So Strategic and Naval bombers look like a bit of a washout at any stage in development. Naval bombers are just a joke.

Well...the German supplied nations have the level 3 naval bomber listed as the FW 200 Condor....

In-game range: 275km

Historical range: 3,560 km (as per wiki)

So yeah, something is VERY wrong, I know the Condor was rightly feared by allied navies because of its range & altitude.

Obviously in-game cant be 3,560km but it needs a significant boost.

Umm, the FW 200 Condor is a heavy bomber. That means it is too damn big to fit on a carrier. Unless it is an American supercarrier. That should be fixed. It was a strategic bomber if anything.

Mess with the Bill, you get the scorn!

I don't think the Kondor was a heavy bomber, it was designed as a long-range airliner and put into war service on maritime recon and anti-shipping work.

In game terms the Naval Bomber is useless for such stuff as it has has such short range, and I think players would benefit from having the means to monitor shipping at long range. The same goes for Strategic Bombers: with limited range they can't get far behind the front lines.

I can assemble invasion fleets reasonably close to an enemy coast, I don't have to bother about protecting key targets far behind the lines. I don't have to think in depth, the action is all in the province or two behind my border. Okay for a 1914 game, but not I believe for 1942.

Ya I totally agree with this. I found it disappointing that I couldnt send my airplane from US to Europe without sticking them in a ship first.

Also, more importantly. There should be two versions of the airport.

1. For creating and maintaining planes

2. There should be an air strip mode where so people can quickly set up shop in foreign territory.

I can see a problem with this. At the moment aircraft cannot be attacked in the air, interceptors have to fly to the attacker's base airfield and hit them there. If I have a Strategic Bomber raid coming at Berlin from Ipswich I couldn't hit it with my Berlin-based Rocket Interceptors or whatever.

So increasing the ranges would have to go with implementing mid-air interceptions.

No, you needn't. To atack Bombers, for exemple, you need to set your interceptors petrolling the area where the enemy is or where is its target.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.
