Damn, the most serious thread on the forum is seriously about the necessity of bicycle infantry...
Bicycle infantry
So i've read about a few things that countries used and I came across a unit that used bikes. I know for a fact that Denmark and other countries in Asia used this during WW2 and I was thinking that maybe it would be a cool unit. Me and my friends have been speculating about it's abilities and they could be fast on retreat and be faster in open territories, and maybe have a damage boost in forests? It could be faster then regular Infantry and slower then mechanized infantry, so kind of a middle unit between them. I think that more units should be added and I know that it might be complicated to create a whole new unit . But I would really appriciate it!

you know this a meme thread right?
I really like this for the countries that were into bicycle infantry, but only for cosmetic update (pics and names). Same goes for camel infantry in those states with a lot of sand (pics and names).
Well... compared to its size Netherlands did far more than was expected, and proportionally possibly more than Britain or the USA might give it credit for.K.Rokossovski wrote:

...says that in may 1940, the Dutch army had an entire DIVISION of wielrijders (=bicyclists)... so OF COURSE they should be implemented in the game!!
Yeah, that's always my second criterium in selecting which units to build... the first is of course even more important: how fast can they surrender?Allanidalen wrote:

So hosannah hey, lets have bicycle infantry!

in Finland they were skiing, but that was really great, in any case you need seasons for such kind of specific units.
Oh boy, Global Warming should be trembling right now
.
What kind of movement penalty would you suggest for these famous Bicicle Infantry units when they move through desert territories. Bicycles on sand don't make for speed.
Would they have to 'reform' like paratroopers if they all got a flat tire in rocky terrain in the mountains? Forcing you to wait as a few hours as they change tires.
Would Ski units get a healing bonus for carrying their own shade over their heads in the scorching sun through the desert and a movement bonus since they can ski down the dunes?
I'm being silly of course. These events had such miniscule and localized effects that trying to copy them all with some form of in-game-mechanic is just not practical.
I don't see them making into the game any time soon.
If You make focus a narrower, everyone might avoid confusion.
In other words, I think that it makes more sense to consider whether the game expresses a different "if" compared to historical facts and whether the target expresses an unrealistic situation separately.
In response to the same fact that neither the ski troop nor the bicycle troop were operated on a large scale in historical fact, the resultative conjunction "thererfore" was followed by "should not be operated on a large scale in the game" or "should be operated on a large scale in the game" both is reasonable to draw the two conclusions that large-scale operations should be carried out.
Yes, I think the idea indeed has flaws. Along with most proposed units, there is already a similar enough niche in-game to replicate a similar effect. Horse cavalry is one exception, although I think motorised infantry does pretty much the same thing. Same with bicycles.OneNutSquirrel wrote:

Mind you the Japanese used them to great effect in Malaya.
