I believe there should be a blockade mechanic in this game, as it is a strategy that has been used throughout historic conflicts with naval forces across the world. For example, the Union in the U.S. Civil War managed to severely hurt the South financially and also economically by cutting off trade between themselves and the rest of the world by forming a blockade in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic. I believe there would be much more strategy added to the navy if this feature was incorporated.
P.S. - If this was already mentioned, I just wanted to bring this idea back to light and perhaps draw in new views and ideas on the matter. I give credit to those who have already mentioned this, as this idea was likely mentioned beforehand.

I asked for a success, that wasn't a success. It was nearly a success, just like Arnhem, but it wasn't. So, just like Arnhem for paratroopers, I will not take a near success as a reason to roll over for something to be put in this game.
An effort doesn't have to be 100% successful to have an impact. The Americans failed to take over all of Canada in the war of 1812, yet by the end of it all they still got what they wanted in terms of more recognition and respect from Britain. Similarly, Germany's UBoats didn't starve Britain into submission, yet they still managed to affect her production and such. Are you saying they shouldn't have even tried?
I think a blockade or sanctions feature would be helpful, and really add an extra dynamic to the game. I just don't think it needs immediate attention.

For your sanction option, that is basically a trade embargo, which we already have.
With this, they can not buy your products, wat he wants is a block for him to buy from all countries.
Either in general, or per product.
It would make it more realistic, to have aside from the political and militaristic elements, some economical tools.
Also what one could do is, agree with the players to enfocre a trade embargo, and sneaky trade personally.
Like iran does with some countries.

It would never be used but you could argue that people might use it for RP if you made it a GM option.

GM feature, let's settle on a GM feature or this thread will end till the day the devs say anything.

Only because one person doesn't believe it will be used?

I agree, because that would be annoying as all heck because someone knows you need something, and they embargo that item thus you can't do squat. However a unit to counter the blockade and sanaction thing could be. The Blockade Runner.

Or just go to war with them and take out their blockade.

True but blockade running, could be a vaild option if for example you know your military will be crushed by him. It will make sure supplies get to your troops aboard.

Or just have it as a GM option and not play in games that have it.

Whenever you say blockade running I get the impression of smuggling...
Blockade can block supply lines, but doing a blockade in-game will be tricky, you need a larger and stronger fleet.

Also said fleet would be a nice target for a nuclear strike.

Very nice target...

There is the option of embargo.
"I came, I saw, I conquered" Written in a report to Rome 47 B.C., after conquering Pharnaces at Zela in Asia Minor in just five days; as quoted in Life of Caesar by Plutarch; reported to have been inscribed on one of the decorated wagons in the Pontic triumph, in Lives of the Twelve Caesars, Julius, by Suetonius. "Alea iacta est" Gaius Julius Caesar.

Only problem with that is that the country you're embargo'ing can still trade with other players. The idea of it all is to restrict the country from trade entirely, unless that particular country or his allies takes out the blockading ships, or manages to sneak through the blockade with "runner ships".

Then it is an interesting idea.

It would be great if stowaway environment, including “ Ship-to-ship cargo transfer ”, were implemented.
