I don't like it. If we get this then I demand a floodlights unit. The land equivalent of the sub spotting ability of nav bombers.
Mess with the Bill, you get the scorn!
In the Spanish forum, this guy had a cool idea. Someone in the English forum already suggesting making Commandos 'land subs'. The Spanish guy kinda reajusted it, making the Commandos invisible in forests and mountains. It's a good idea, and a much needed buff for the Commandos.

Wait, I forgot to add that if the province is captured and the Commandos are still there, the Commandos get spotted.
About the 'floodlights', they're only invisible in woods and mountains, that's kinda the anti-buff. A penalty in cities was also mentioned.
Foot soldiers becoming invisible in woods and mountains but weakened in cities? That is just ridiculous!
I like the idea, but cities they need to be unseen too otherwise it unravels the whole point of invisible troops.
Ok, they are invisible in cities too, but what is the anti-buff then?
They can only fire spuds 10 feet. Basically a super nerf.Pablo22510 wrote:

They're visible on hills and open plains which makes them severely weaker.
Not really. They should just have zero AA ability and cannot fight tanks too well.
Ok, I'm for the 0 AA ability. Have some AT defense.
This could be quite nice if implemented.
Intresting Idea
Dont like the penalty for cities
But yea invisible but not on open terrian
0-AA yea, but better AT I agree

great idea, but for an anti-buff you could make another unit kind of like the anti-commando, like the destroyer is the anti-sub. Maybe give that attribute to another unit that already exists, like armored cars. That might add some real value to armored cars as well, because I only use those for land grabbers.
Yeah I dont like the idea of any invisible units unless there is some way to reveal them. I cant think of a unit suitable for that job.
AC are great scouts.CrimsonKing116 wrote:

I mentioned one earlier: floodlights. They are the known enemy of spec ops.Sir McSquiggles wrote:

This reminds me of how most units in 30k can camouflage themselves in certain areas. I would love this being a thing in COW, with no way to counter it. Commandos should show up as a ? though, so they're not completely invisible, but they should be like this in both friendly and enemy territory.
unless they are intercepted by other infantry...
I think that might have to be the case

I don't like the invisible unit idea, it requires more units to be altered to and feels like a very large buff.
however that 'hidden strength outside of combat or scouting' option is much more appealing to me.
Well Commandos were meant for behind the lines sabotage and intelligence gathering. So how about this: They are invisible but has a chance of being discovered by planes or near by troops. This chance depends on where the Commandos are, for instance in a field they are easy to spot but in cities or forests they are hard to see. But as a debuff they have next to no AA capacity and weak AT ability. But can put up a decent fight against infantry. Also maybe they could have the ability to damage a building in the province they're in, but have a chance of failing with different degrees of failure. From doing no damage to buildings, to being spotted, to taking damage.
Good idea,
"Well Commandos were meant for behind the lines sabotage and intelligence gathering."
I do believe spies are a good and already existing answer to this option.
visible when captured..
Commandos where also used to capture strategic points from the inside out.
Someone on a French forum posted the idea of para-troopers to be parachuted behind enemy lines.
This feature might be interesting for the commandos,
Giving them a faster deployment time in enemy territories.
Or instead of parachuting them, hang-gliders could be made as their transport carriers in to enemy territories.
(as was the case in some mayor WW II events)
Naturally it would have to be developed under secret weapons and can only be used one time.
Flying the commandos in would mean that they are partly invisible as they are transported in to their mission,
but become visible as their mission is executed.
To me this resolves al the visibility issues and countermeasures, plus ...
it seems rather logical, since the action happens behind enemy lines.
just a idea upon an idea...
Kind regards,

The SAS was formed in 1941. Its first mission, in November 1941, was a parachute drop in support of the Operation Crusader offensive.maj.tom wrote:
Note that SAS and SEAL teams did not exist in WW II ;o)
I was thinking that maybe we could have multiple lvl's of commandos, unlocking new abilities such as gliders to get behind lines and maybe a stealth ability (instead of being invisible all the time, so they go invisible while still and harder for enemy to detect while on the move but its defence ability is weakened and it moves much slower.
