chat rules thread

I have noticed that many people get banned on the chat and claim they haven't read the rules. I was thinking that like on the main screen that has a tab that goes to the forum, we could have a tab at the bottom of the chat that goes straight to the forum. so if you click on the tab that says "chat rules", it will open a second page that when opened up, will be the chat rules. this way more people will see that tab and will read the rules, lowering bans. I think this will be very useful for the mods and make the chat better with less people breaking the rules because they have direct access to the rules. this will also be helpful so that instead of typing the entire link, the mods could just say "click the tab at the bottom of the chat that says 'chat rules' and read them." I think this would be very helpful in the chat.

also, great job mods. keep the good work up  .

Me thinks there is no shortage of A-holes who want to cause a stir in chat. Being civil is not in those guys plans. I have never read the rules and have used common sense and it seems to work for me. (Though I did get warned one time for having a question that was over 5 lines long).

"Until there are clearly defined and enforceable rules for hand-to-hand combat, there can't be rules in global war. Kill em all!"

Actually I would like to have a heading in the chat box that states clearly "Chat connects all games worldwide" to cut down on the number of times per minute that people ask that question, or assume that chat is just the people in their own game, but I digress from this suggestion.

Firstly ignorance of the law is no excuse. The chat rules are fairly basic and as ike says above: common sense works in most cases. Chat exists for players to communicate in a polite and friendly way, however, since some people are not polite and friendly there have to be rules and consequences for breaking them.

Secondly, the chat rules are simply a part of the Terms of Use which every player agrees to in order to create their account. Specifically:

Dr. LeipreachΓ‘n wrote:

11 Liability for Content:

Regarding communication between Participants, the game serves as a platform via which the Participants may communicate with each other. The Participants are solely responsible for the content of such communication and for further content which is made available on the Internet site by the Participants. Bytro Labs is not responsible for any content which is pornographic, racist, offensive or otherwise of an illegal nature, which has been made available on the platform or otherwise on the Internet site of the game by Participants. The same applies to content which infringes third party rights in any other way. Any breach may lead to the immediate deletion and/or blocking of the relevant content and/or the Account of the Participant and to the exclusion of the Participant from the game by termination of the contract with the Participant.

and a few other relevant sections. As the chat users have obviously created an account they have agreed to abide by these rules already.

Naturally the fine print is rather dry reading, so a slightly more readable form of the chat rules is provided here:

Also in most cases the people who want to specifically read the rules are looking for a loophole in the rules with which they can harass the staff. The few people who are genuinely interested can navigate to the forum with ease and find the rules section as the second category of the forum, just under the News section.

It isn't a bad idea Attacker, but I do not believe that it will change the behavior of anyone.

We prefer chat to be a polite and friendly place where players can interact and ask questions about how the game works and discuss strategy, tactics, or anything else. Most of the rules are simply necessary because some people are determined to be rude and insulting to other people, and a few are necessary because of actual German laws and EU laws that need to be followed. A few rules are also needed simply because people like to be a nuisance as well. Since chat rules are NOT the reason that we have a chat in the same way that we don't build roads just so there can be a speed limit and a traffic light, I think it also might set the wrong tone for chat to have the rules displayed right there. We don't want people to feel threatened by the rules, as that will cause them to break the rules just to prove a point. As we want chat to be helpful I would prefer to have a link to the forum where users can find anything from the rules to explanations of SBDE and combat mechanics.
