I like this idea, as well. They should cover at least the same distances as a self-propelled artillery, I'd think.

Coastal Defense Guns
I'd like to see some coastal defense guns. They where used heavily during WWII and would make a great addition to this game. 
Take Gibraltar for instance. Some of the best coastal defenses of the war.

Crossing the sea with transports is already dangerous enough. Any bomber or ship forms a massive treat. Adding coastal guns will make crossing the sea even more dangerous. It's already the most dangerous thing to do in this game. Therefor I'm against adding coastal guns. They would shift the balance even more in the defenders advantage.

Just like anything else, they could adjust the purchasing costs to even it out. I would recommend making it a secret upgrade. You would need to have level 5 fortifications at least, and I would set the manpower to 1,500 just like the rail-gun.
I wonder if these suggestions are ever actually seen and seriously considered, or if it is just a PR gimmick.
Again, this is a fantastic game!
