Customizing Names and Unit Division's

Customizing units I believe is something most players want, For example, you click on your medium tank division and see "22nd Medium tank division" this unit has like 15 confirmed kills you start to give it a name in your head but want to see it on the actual unit, this unit is your best so how cool would it be if you could rename them to something like '7th Panzer Division' or if this is a Solo Elite Unit tank wouldn't it be sick to name it 'Fury' or 'Eagle 7' or give it its own flag? Your enemies would see this and check its status or do what they do and they would turn tail and run! Or like naming an Elite Fighter Squadron of yours something like 'Jagdgeschwader 11' or another awesome name. I feel like these customizational options would make the units your play with feel like Your Units, Your Divisions that have been through it all with their awesome General.

Another customizational feature I thought that would bring this all together is if you had 3 options whilst loading into your nation for a flag, Germany for example, you have 3 flag options 1. Is the Nazi parties flag during World War Two. 2. is the German flag before Hitler changed it 3. would be the flag after World War Two.

I think that these options would incredibly expand the player's personality and the gameplay also.

Thanks for reading this, Scphs. :D

Well thanks for the reply. It's just some of us are proper ex-wargamers and wanted something all encompassing to play.

As hinted at in my post I cant understand why the game wasnt designed on the set and subset principle. A force changing its name when amalgamated and then usually losing it when that amalgamation is undone seems nuts to me. It is like you losing your name because you go around with the CEO and then when you are Freezy again become Tomkins. (Dont tell me you are the CEO!)

So on that, why was the game designed that way? From a maritime perspective there is this heirarchy I think so a DD goes in with a BB and on leaving that comes out as a different force number. Dont get it, but hey ho.

I will say this the graphics are really good though, but it is a bit insulting have Japanese logoed aircraft representing Chinese forces. I did mention that a few years ago but was told it couldn't be changed.

Thanks for replying feeezy, go back to your working slumber!

My father once said this: “If you don’t know anything, don’t assume you know and don’t say anything you don’t know is true”
I always got annoyed when he said that, but to be honest he’s kinda right if you think about it
Have a good day!

The answer to questions like this is usually: Because this system was designed 15 years ago (for the first version of Supremacy 1914) and wasn't touched since then. You can be sure that many systems from back then were not developed in the most optimal way and without too much forethought. It worked well enough, so it remained like that, and many additional systems have been built around. That's why rectifying some of the early systems is not as easy as it seems.

Back.... to.... sleep....

Well ok, but I remember playing things like Taskforce 1942 and they and other games at the time - early 1990's used sets and subsets.

Its strange that I can name my battleship, but its nametag doesn't show up in-game. Does it appear to other players?

“When I carefully consider the curious habits of dogs
I am compelled to conclude
That man is the superior animal.
When I consider the curious habits of man
I confess, my friend, I am puzzled”
Ezra Pound

Only when it is sunk! In the newspaper.

The problem is you cant really keep track of unts because they change numbers when you merge them into a larger force. I have complained about this. Seems the original game never used the concepts of sets and subsets which were in other naval wargames for instance - Taskforce 1942 comes to mind. These were out in the early 1990's.

I believe there is a hierarchy so I 'think' the more senior force keeps its number. Not sure which keeps its number when two of the same type group, whether it is the first built or not.

I was in a game earlier this year where I tried to keep track of everything to create a sort of war diary. Became impossible almost. In the end was like being an accountant !

They used to announce the name whenever it killed another unit. Don’t know if they still do that though.
