Declaration of war

I find the declaration of war quite unrealistic, because when we declare war on a country, that country immediately declares war on thy nation. Taking an example from WW2 itself; when Japan attacked the US on 7th December, it didn't went to war on the same day. It was not until 8th December did the US actually declared war. In simple words, declaration of war shouldn't be automatic.

See other threads for suggestions like this - sure, it might be more realistic but

1. CoW is NOT a simulation, it’s a game; and

2. Bytro has other priorities!

I’m sure we could nitpick every aspect of CoW to make it more ‘realistic’, but then, as I said, we wouldn’t have a game - we’d have a simulation.

Have a blessed day <3

To be fair that didn’t mean the US and Japan were not still at war and fighting, it just meant no was was declared. Even Ukraine and Russia have both not officially declared war even though they are fighting.

Neither government did or has, it’s still a special military operation in Russia and an undeclared war in Ukraine.

A game can be a simulation too, so let it be. What such priorities exist except to make this game more realistic? Can't we just add these 'minute' details that will make the game more fun? You see, there are reasons why games like HOI4 are popular.
Edward Downin'don

HOI4 is a PC game that’s even more complicated, but with a way bigger budget and time. It’s also much more expensive, the actual full game literally costs a hundred dollars. In a game where developers have to balance 10k things, this minor detail is not important, and it doesn’t really matter; wars declared or undeclared are still wars, so there should be no rush to change them.

That’s not to mention that declaration is instant in Hoi4 as well!!

Check the russian occupation of Crimea, both countries are considered at war

They never declared war officially.

I just mentioned an example that HOI4 is a popular game, I don't know how it works. A realistic game is realistic but that doesn't mean that minor details should be ignored.

Edward Downin'don

It’s not a detail that would improve things though. So what if you declare war earlier then it should, you’re still fighting either way, so what does it matter?

Realism

Edward Downin'don

In a game where ships never need to dock, soldiers can march across the entire world without losing any combat effectiveness, and no ammo costs? Not sure if this would be high in the list, Walt.

Sure there are many unrealistic parts, this is the place where people suggest stuff. Although you have a point and I do agree with it.
