defeated countries armies

TO whom it may concern,

Why is it that when a country is totally conquered, that particular country's army, navy, air force etc. don't surrender to the occupying country and instead keep fighting that invading country. It doesn't make sense.

In reality, when a country is defeated, it's military is surrendered to the occupying country and become part of its forces. So why not here.

For example: I conquered let say Spain and defeated the whole ground army but it has like 10 cruisers, 2 battleships and 5 subs. These keep fighting against me. When in reality they should surrender to my country as they have no country to fight for, since their country has been conquered by my country. To this they should surrender and join my military and recognize my leadership as their new country leader.

I suggest that this should be fixed in the game, as in reality this is what happens.

Thank you

The objective of the defeated countries army is to regain a province so it can re-establish it's government. Land units are the only units that can take a province, but the navy and air-force will continue to attack you as that was the last known order. Since there is no government to negotiate a peace agreement, they carry on trying to re-establish itself. Since the AI country won't declare war on another country; it will, literally, fight you to the death trying to regain a province to establish itself again. Even in the real world, a defeated country has an adhoc government to negotiate a surrender.

In reality, fallen countries troops would continue to fight. In my personal opinion, there is nothing to be fixed. France was defeated it WWII, but they continued to fight their oppressors. That is what really happens.

People are very unlikely to say, "oh, ok. I guess you own our country, now." Especially armies and navies that were trained to fight for their country.

Free Time looks good on me

Agreed but some units over time should surrender, because they run out of food and can't fight thus i think over a few weeks they should surrender. But some would not surrender like commandos or battleships.

What actually disturbs me is that you can't make peace with an AI if he doesn't have any provinces left, but you can if he has 1 or more provinces left. An AI without land but with subs in the Canal or any other choke point is anoying like hell.
