Defence structures

Having fortresses in the game remind us that many nations still used fixed lines of defence, or forts (such as in Holland) to defend themselves- many of these forts are left over from the 1800.

However, I feel like we (as a community) should help bring some new defences in. The units in the game are becoming far more mobile, with three times of SP-weaponry. Forts just aren't cutting it anymore kids, and we need to adapt our defence to keep up with these new powerful weapons. Remember Poland? You wanna end up like Poland? No, didn't think so.

I have, so far, came up with three suggestions. I would like to add to this list and credit those who help.

  • Dragons-teeth: Simply concrete blocks which are normally placed over roads, or fields. They are used to slow armoured forces down and change routes.
  • -15% movement speed for (enemy) armoured units
  • 1000 Goods, 1000 metal and $2000
  • Level 1 only.
  • Would be useful on plains, as being light tank rushed on plains is how I imagine France felt during the Blitzkrieg.

  • Barbed beaches: Look up a picture of a English beach in 1940, it looked more like a basic training camp. Barbed wire, mines- other rumours of oil pipe lines to burn the Hun on the sands. Lovely stuff.
  • 10% increased disembarking time per level
  • 1500 goods, 2000 metal and $8000- add five hundred of each resources on per level.
  • Level 1-3
  • Before you all go "beach landings are hard enough" we are about to have carriers, we have rockets, we have planes, rail-road guns (English channel is normally covered by rail-road guns in my experience) not to mention mass bombardment which happens- of course, on cities which are in range. But this is war, and if landing on a beach was easy, the Canadian Raid on German held Europe in 1942 would have been a walk in the park. Hey, this might even give people something else other than 'gold spammers' to complain about.

  • Trenches- we love trenches. Those of us who played S1914 asked for an actual trench building, which normally got shot down.
  • Garrison defence bonus +10%
  • 2000 goods, 1000 metal and $5000- can only be built in forests/hills
  • Level 1 only
  • Ok, I hear you all this time- "Tankbuster, how much did you drink before writing this?" and the answer is- lots. Forests/hills are the best place for trenches, believe it or not, but a good trench system in a forest/hills caused an awful lot of damage in the first world war, and during Korea. Attacking a hill is no easy feat, nor is attacking through heavy forest regions. Due to combining forts with this building (which boost garrison defence by 75% at lvl 5) I have limited it to level one, as a good trench is generally easy to construct. German trenches in WW1 had warm running water, and even electric lights. Just thought you'd want to know that.

Sorry, i disagree with all suggested options.

Movement speed on enemy terrain is 50% less than on your own. We can imagine there are already some "things" blocking our path. IMO there is no need to slowu nits down even more with "Dragons-theeth".

Barbed beaches are way, way and way overpriced for what they accomplish. They have to be rediculously cheap if I ever want to consider making them on my 300 sea bordering provinces.

Trenches: I havn't played supremacy. I imagine you don't want trenches to be like forts, centered in the capital of the province, but stretching from province to province. They are quite expensive for their bonus. IMO it should only support units on foot and slow them down as well if you would make trenches. I can't imagine tanks taking cover in trenches and units moving through trenches just as fast as through the fields. It's a "no", sorry.

Hmm...

I disagree with Trenches, and barb wire,

but dragon teeth, a possibility

not a bad idea

I like how much you thought about this. May I suggest that it should use a similar placement system to ports? So only one line of march is 'covered'?

That would work better, It would make the enemy explore other strategies

Perhaps reduce the drag on troops in enemy truff from 50% to 10% to make these all usable cause these are good ideas. we should also allow our troop to dig in and allow a small defence buff. now infantry have a defnce buff, so simply reduce it a little

maybe add

"fox holes"

Infantry can dig in, set up only in certain terrain, eg Forest, obviously not Plains

just add a 1 defensive value against armour and Infantry maybe?

what does that mean? Fox holes are a good idea but a side effect could be if you didn't fill them in the enemy could use it.

Just I can say I came up with it lol

well thast the same for almost every defense, same way I can take fortifactions

even otherwise, Forts, pill boxes, minefields, trenches

Sir tankbuster,

I tried to message you using the CoW messages system but could find no 'tankbuster' name. I'd like to talk to you. Message me if you would, or let me know if there's a way to contact you :mail:

Thanks.
