Organising for units to delay for long enough to group with another unit can be quite awkward and hard to do, so here are 2 features that I think should be changed about the "Delay Command":
1) The slider should be replaced with a type-in box, or a type-in-box should be implemented as well
2) When selecting the delay command, you should be able to select another unit, and the delay will automatically be synchronised so that the 2 units will be grouped before moving.

agreed that a type in box would be useful. same is true of the espionage menu.
ease of use features such as these are far, far down on the development list.

This doesn't make sense.

I assume by "grouped before moving" he means they'd merge into a single stack before continuing on their way. This would be really nice, actually, when you want units of different speeds to arrive at the same time but also travel together.

Would it be like telling to units to rendezvous at a certain area, then travel together to another? If so I agree, that would be a useful idea. A lot safer if you donβt want your forces picked off one by one on their way somewhere.

Yea that's exactly what I'm thinking, and I assume that's what OP meant

These are all great ideas, and I agree completely.
But as a first step, can we please get a simple input field to enter the time delay?
That slider is very hard to control.
A simple UI change would be most helpful, most urgently.

1) I think we have designs for that in the backlog. Not sure if it was with an input field or some other way to allow for more fine grained constrols. Also no idea when this will be worked on But would be nice indeed!
2) is already possible. Select 2 or more separate moving armies first and then click on the delay button. The timer will automatically choose the correct time (don't change it, just confirm!) for them to sync up and arrive at the same time. This way, if they move on the same path, they will also merge beforehand when meeting up on the path.

This is only true if the units travel at the same speed right? I don't think I've ever seen this happen with units that travel at different speeds because the faster one is always behind the slower one until the moment they arrive at the destination

You can set a delay for them to all meet at the some time at a certain point where they merge, and then add target for them to reach the rest of the way. Iβm not 100% sure if that works but I think it worked for me once.

At least syncing the arrival time works with any speeds. As an example, just send a Heavy Tank army, a Medium Tank army and an Armored Car army to a location, then select all 3, hit delay button, confirm (without changing the slider). They will arrive at exactly the same time. The Heavy tank army would not wait and just move since it is the slowed, the medium tank would wait a bit to sync up arrival with the heavy tank, and the armored car will wait even longer to sync its arrival time since it is the fastest. So unit speed is accounted for. This was possible for years already in the game btw
What is true is that the merging upfront far ahead of time would not work in that case because the fastest army will wait for so long that it will only catch up with the slowest army shortly before the arrival location.

Yea I'm grateful for that feature and use it regularly (though sometimes the arrival ends up unsynchronized by a few seconds causing the first arrival to attack alone). I interpret OP's suggestion as being an addition onto that feature, so that units of different would group up *first* and travel afterwards, rather than traveling first and grouping upon arrival.
An example might be an SPAA and a medium tank, where you want them to be grouped while traveling as extra protection against air attack.

I see. Well I remember that this grouping up beforehand might still happen with this existing feature, if the fast and the slow army travel on the same path and the fast army is in front. The fast army will then wait for the slow army to catch up and merge once that happens, and continue traveling together afterwards. At least I remember that happening for me in the past but no time right now to test it.
