Diplomacy with AI's

It really annoys me that if you don't keep global popularity high, a nation will start building up its forces, then it invades, and I think there should be a diplomatic way to stop this. either a new diplomatic relation called appeasement, the longer you keep appeasement, the more that nation likes you, but moral increases quickly.

The second option is to have a selection of things you can message an AI country with, and they will respond. This can either escalate1 or de-escalate the situation very quickly

The only counter thought I have is that human players will work the system and know how to manipulate it.

But, I would like to be able to calm down hostilities and have it not count against me if I am at war with a nation (if they declared war or attacked me first).

Despite the improvements, the AI is still quite a lot weaker than a player. It's definitely survivable. I guess that introducing AI messages would be complicated, take a lot of testing and Bytro wouldn't spare money for it.

I'm not even certain whether it would make CoW a more popular game, because more complications would drive many players away, especially impatient ones (who probably also purchase gold more often).

I do agree that it would make CoW a better game, but you know what? If most players were active, it would improve the game way more than anything else. We probably won't get AI messages from the devs any soon, so if you want to make this game better, focus on being active in games:) I think that's a good, doable contribution.

Sorry. But I don't think AI messages are going to happen. Perhaps they could make the AI less aggressive, though. And maybe even allow us to send resources to the AI, if we wanted to back it against our enemies (like USSR and USA did in the Cold War), or get better relations (like share map)...?

If you have above 10k manpower, you're not investing properly. A good player never has many resources.
Larger armies destroy enemies faster without taking damage from them.
Build only: 1 military building in each city, airstrips, and recruiting stations to boost manpower.
Minimize research, 2 unit types early, 6 types in late game. Upgrade old units, but: artillery lv1 to lv2 is a waste, only lv1 to lv4 is worth it.
Enjoy

AI are a lot weaker. Except, I had 11 attacking me at once. Man is that daunting! But, slooowwwwwwwlllllyyyy I overcame them.

Impatience- I still can't figure out why so many people leave at day 3.

They want to have a good game, so they join like 30 games at the same time and wait for the one that turns out better. Then, they quit all the other ones. This makes CoW games extremely inactive and even more boring, so people start joining even more games at once to find an interesting one, and the problem gets even worse lol.

Also, there are probably a lot of impatient kids who are excited to fight and destroy, and when they realize the game is real-time with a lot of waiting, they quit. Also, it takes a lot of learning to enjoy the strategic depth of the game, and the Wiki doesn't really help it. The Forum does quite a bit, but many people probably don't even know that it exists lol.

So, even if there's a decent amount of active players (1/7), they tend not to be skilled, or not to have time to check the game often and play properly.

This problem is terrible. But, fortunately, there are active skilled communities you can join and learn from ;)

Just adding an additional selection from a drop down to increase global popularity is pointless, as is said words are air. Actions on the other hand speak volumes. We already have a way to increase global popularity with AI nations, its setting your relations to ROW/Share Map with the AI nation you wish increased popularity with.

What would be a worthwhile suggestion? Look to the past for an answer. It is TRIBUTE, the ancient way to improve relations or keep a potential enemy from attacking esp while engaged in war with a 3rd nation. How would this be added into the game? Basically the same as trading resources to human players. You would send resources to an AI nation as a gift and it would increase your popularity with that AI nation and possibly other AI nations. The increase would not last forever and the more it is used the more expensive it should become. It should be more expensive to gain popularity in the later part of the game, early tribute when resources are low should be worth more "influence" than when they are abundant.

Tribute would open the possibility of resource extortion from AI nations in reverse as well but at the potential to drop popularity if done. Larger Army/Nation 'requesting' resources from smaller AI nation would work but only for so long and from a few nations. (Many more ideas for this but that would be the matter for another post on a different thread.)

"Strategy is the art of making use of time and space. I am less concerned about the later than the former. Space we can recover, lost time never." ~ Napoleon Bonaparte
"Anyone who has to fight, even with the most modern weapons, against an enemy in complete command of the air, fights like a savage against modern European troops, under the same handicaps and with the same chances of success." ~ Erwin Rommel
