Every equipment that is produced costs manpower to build and to fight. Buying this unit would conclude in also buying that manpower that's invested in that unit and would result in buying mercenairies. There were no mercenairies in WWII so this would be very incorrect. It is way more important to learn how to manage your economy. If you master the economical part of the game there's no need to buy units because you will always have enough resources to produce your units. It's also important to prioritize as you can't research, build and produce everything. Finally you need to adapt your army to your economy. If you play with Egypt for example which is low on oil then going heavy on the tanks isn't the best strategy. Going for the infantry branch would be more adapted to your economy.
