As I understand it, Avalon Hill is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hasbro. So I am more than a little surprised that many of the Avalon Hill classic war games have not been reissued/republished in computer format or made available as online games. They were, in their time, the most sophisticated war games available.Peter Mat wrote:
Yes they were much better organized, but they also dealt with a lot of the trivia the computer takes care of.
Engineers
I'd like to suggest the introduction of a new unit: Engineers.
Purpose of engineers would be to build fortifications along lines of travel on the map. Units defending in those forts would get bonus defense points.
Second, I'd like to see introduced some concept of supply such that units that don't have a path unimpeded by enemy territory or units back to their capital city would get deductions on attack and defense. If out of supply long enough units would be eliminated.

Unfortunatly, they usually sacrificed playability over realism. I've always been in favor of the former. War at Sea was an exception to that rule though (I remember the Tirpitz together with the Graf Zeppelin getting caught in neutral South America quite often)))
Diplomacy was released for PC once upon a time, I remember seeing it in Wallmart. Reviews were terrible.
