Espionage overshadowing the War-game

I'm playing a 100 player World map game for the first time. Now down to the last 4 human players, but for the last 7-10 days of the game, the espionage side of the game has began to overshadow the war-game. Every night the Newspaper will show 15-20 of my provinces that have had attempted spy hits. The result is usually the loss of an economic building, and when this is multiplied by 10 per night, (counter espionage may save a few)the economic hit on Oil and Food is likely to be putting all players into the red. I know all of my allies were complaining of no oil, before they bailed out on me. I can see my enemies are producing only artillery and anti-tank guns now, indicating a problem with oil there end as well. It's a shame. All we are doing is hitting each other with spies, because we do still have a good cash income. I would say there should be a limit on how many spies can be used against each enemy. Also last week I was astounded to discover I could see all of the units of one of my opponents. All this time I'd been sneaking about, when most likely my enemies had been able to see me as well. I think this ruins the game as well to be honest.

I meant to also say, food shortages caused my best ally to quit as he was all of a sudden losing 1,000 food an hour. Following several days of high volume spy hits. He had a large army. i was sending him 5k food when i could, but in the end he had to concede he couldn't sustain it. Defeated not militarily, but by espionage. Perhaps people will say it's part of the game. But is it real? and does it improve the game.

Quasi thinks that espionage is part of war. British made heavy use of spies in WWII.

Espionage has always been a rather large past in war, and the way it works in this game makes it so eventually it'll turn into a cold war when on the large maps.

You'll have to plan for these things in future experiences.

Buddy, D-Day was only possible due to the intelligence departs used by the allies.

Invest in some counter spies

You sound like a Historian, Tankbuster. Can I point out then, that D-Day was a surprise to the Germans, especially where the eventually landings took place. Also the same, when the Japs attacked Pearl Harbour etc etc. In this game the espionage is so almighty, you can't fart without the enemy knowing about it. D-Day couldn't happen in this game. Take away the ability to see all enemy units. Or limit it to within a small radius around any operational spies.

Also you can't prepare in advance for the effect on your economy due to espionage. if the game ends up with each side firing missiles and blowing up each others power plants with spies, the game has gone down hill at this point.

The spionage is a nice part of a game.

The reveal all armies for 1600 gold i think it is unfair..

The entire point of spies are to gather information on the enemy forces, removing the ability to see the enemies army is completely bloody pointless. What do you honestly think spies did during the war? This game uses historical fact as a base for most things, if you're that bothered about spies, use counter-spies: because that's the logical thing.

Or, if you're smart enough, anticipate that your movements/communications are being watched, and plan around that. If spies are stealing money/destroying buildings, place counter spies in those city or just in your major factory cities. You have the means to defeat them, and then use your own spies to spy on the enemy. Fight fire with fire.

On the D-day note, D-day was an operational success due to the spy next work diverting German troops towards western France, mostly around the area of Calais.

But it wouldn't have been if the Germans had been able to see all of the allies units the night before !

Brits had good counter spies you know.

all i'm saying is, the espionage part of the game, in my experience, in a 100 player game, is overshadowing the war game. the 100 player game is brand new, so lets tweak it here and there to make it better. the game is boring when all sides have a lack of oil and food, are reluctant to risk putting large armies to sea, for fear of losing them. it's much easier to defend an invasion from the sea. Nobody's building tanks anymore. anti-tank guns are attacking in large numbers. nobody building aircraft anymore, or ships for that matter. everyones hanging on to what they produced earlier in the game. Tomorrow my food will go zero, and minus production. Not sure what will happen after than. i will stick with it and see what else i can do. but advanced weaponry is pointless as you won't have resources at the end of the game due to espionage destroying the production of oil and food. in fact i can understand why people quit the game early. if you aren't enjoying it, whats the point.

No one building tanks? Jesus, someone nuke that entire game.

thats what i'm saying. who would have thought at the start of the game, after around 42 days- (now into 48th) the most important weapons would be anti tank gun and artillery and missile, because they don't need food or oil to build. Its like Mad Max, where oil is rare and valuable. i can see one of my enemy's units due to espionage. his tanks are kept well away from the front line, frightened of them getting in the range of my bombers. Bombers built a long time ago. and 17 or 23 anti tank guns-in one battalion, wheeling across the land. i'm sticking with it, i won't win, as all my allies have given up. Its me against 3 who were allied before the game began. all barracks closed since the start. i never bother with infantry after the first week due to the food penalty from the barracks. Limit spies to 6. give them the ability to see within a certain range -perhaps they can be trained up, to improve their spy range, but no more of this seeing all around the world. how could that even happen. and so the 6 limit will allow some sabotage but not on ridiculous scales. But mainly used for gathering information.

The espionage overshadowing the end of a 100 man game was basically what the Cold War was.

The game is not in any way real life / realistic nor does it strive to be It's a slow-paced strategy game with balanced gameplay and some extra features for users that care enough to spend money on it and keep it free for all the others.

Counter spies are much, much cheaper than other spies, so buy a buttload and place them in your vital provinces.
