Flamethrower, Generals, and Research on Guns.

Not sure if anyone else talked about this suggestions but I recommend adding Flamethrower units, Generals to help out infantry or etc, and able to research specific types of guns :P

Ed, those were standard squad, platoon and company level infantry weapons that most of the major countries used, as well as mortars and heavy machine guns.

Call of War is played on the level of regiments (infantry), brigades (armor) and squadrons (aircraft). As such, the weapons you mentioned above are already de facto included within regimental-size in-game infantry units (conventional, motorized, mechanized, militia, anti-tank, anti-aircraft, artillery, as well as some other units), and the unit tech research levels for those units represent upgrades of those weapons as well as other equipment.

Generals would be cool though

I suppose a having a unit to represent a General could be interesting. Probably the best use of a general is to coordinate activities, leading to more accurate targeting. So perhaps a general could improve "accuracy" by reducing the x factor by a certain percentage.

So a stack of units could have perhaps up to 5 generals of maximum effectiveness, and each one would reduce the lower end of the x-factor by 10%.

So for a normal stack, the X-factor can range from 0% to 100%, meaning your unit can hit with full strength, or make a clean miss, or anywhere in between. Adding one general would change the x factor range to 10% to 100%. Two generals would make it 20% to 100%, and so on.

The armored command train :P

But seriously, it would be nice to have generals, if for no other reason than to have some other use for the images of Churchill, Patton, and the others on the popups that occur on the right side of the screen... Would add some flavor, and if a command vehicle is allowed, it'd probably be an armored command train for Germany, tent HQ's for Japan(or something similar), mobile HQ based on a jeep convoy for the US, and possibly some other armored train for the Ruskies. Would be a great pair-up with the railroad gun.

Generals could increase province moral too.

I like the idea of Generals or perhaps Army HQ's.

  • Each army HQ would have a command radius.
  • Ground units outside the command radius would have movement and combat penalties as they have outrun their base of supply.
  • An HQ stacked with units would provide an offensive or defensive bonus.

My suggestion for Generals:

1.Each country will have 5 generals that they can select to train(They will be available according to what unit skin that country is using, Sweden uses US skins, so they can have Eisenhower or Montgomery, and German skins can have Rommel and others)

2. You can only have 2 generals at a time

3. They will give a bonus to the army stack that they are in, such as 5% more health, 10% more attack, or terrain usage(amplifies terrain bonuses) according to their most famous tactics.

4. They can only be trained in the capital. (2 days for each)

5.They will be a unit that they were known for commanding(Nimitz will have a Aircraft Carrier, Rommel will have a light tank, etc.)

Well that solves the problem of fighting a 10 general nuclear bomber

FYI, Nimitz never commanded an aircraft carrier. Prior to becoming U.S. Navy CINCPAC and the Allied theater commander, Nimitz commanded a destroyer, submarines, a submarine flotilla, a destroyer tender, a cruiser, a cruiser division, and a battleship division. But, no, Nimitz never commanded an aircraft carrier.

My bad. A 10% morale loss for when they are killed would also make it a bit more realistic and prevent spamming.

I'm suprised this thread is such a big hit lol

Flamethrowers = No

Generals = Yes; but in limited amounts (limit of 3 generals or something which increase units under his morale and attack)

Gun Upgrades = No; this is already available through upgrading units

Make Generals an HQ unit and in turn fix a glaring problem in COW called supply. Give the HQ a descent radius. Units inside the radius gain a combat bonus (A General)(+10%) while Units outside the radius have a movement penalty (25%) and small defensive penalty (-10%). This simulates running out of fuel and ammo. Sorry tired of the AC's & LT's running through the board for days on end, provinces ahead of the front line and never slowing down. No they would have run out of gas in real life.
