Why do the graphics on this game look like someone took a picture of a map and decreased the height while increasing the length? It gives off a strange, tilted, stretch that seems to serve no purpose.

Perhaps the graphics need a change.
"I came, I saw, I conquered" Written in a report to Rome 47 B.C., after conquering Pharnaces at Zela in Asia Minor in just five days; as quoted in Life of Caesar by Plutarch; reported to have been inscribed on one of the decorated wagons in the Pontic triumph, in Lives of the Twelve Caesars, Julius, by Suetonius. "Alea iacta est" Gaius Julius Caesar.

If they were changed, I am sure it would get more people to invest their time in the game

This game has real problems , not graphics , Huge numbers of innactives , lack of rewards for wining a game , "magical ic's who can build 40 units in no time " . i bet most of ppl are fine with the actual graphics

Of course, it would be a great update.

I'm fine with the graphics. We need to solve stuff elsewhere.
The past is a foreign country.

It is also true, that the game needs other things with higher priority.

Yes, but more than one thing has to be done that is more important than this. A whole heap of things, in fact.
The past is a foreign country.

The map isn't "stretched", everything depends on the projection you use. Since the Earth is round, you cannot have one perfect map. That is why there are different projections.

What the hell kind of a shape is crooked? You mean it is spherically/ovular but on a tilted axis.

No, it's just a reference to the pretty bad movie 'Crooked Earth'.
