I think the most players who abandon game do not come back at all, so no rule can not fix that problem. Maybe only to put higher levels to enter map.I would like to play 100 players map with level 70+, that would be challenge.
Game Abandonment
The more 100 games I play these days the more game abandonments I seem to run across.
Currently a player can spawn any number of games and then abandon them whenever.
Suggestion: Create a rule that will only allow a player to have 3 abandoned games open at any time. Until he has been eliminated/defeated in any of those abandoned games he is not allowed to start anymore games until the number goes below 3.
While I know 3 is an arbitrary number the number would have to be greater than 1 but not so great that it defeats the purpose of attempting to get players to stay on their maps longer and support players who give up reasonably.
Yes, someone may start 10 games and abandon them all and get stuck for a long time if they don't go back to their games. Yes, that person may quit, but that person isn't playing the games and isn't buying gold anyway. So a warm body to start a game and then quits would be gone from COW. I won't miss them.

I have met people who leave the game so NPC spawns a big army for them and they come back, use the army to occupy something and then do the same process.patriota75 wrote:

It will not 'fix' the problem but it would stop them from going from game to game to game and doing the same thing.
It would in other words 'reduce the problem' as there is no concrete solution.
I feel your pain, especially in roleplay wannabes. The first day, newspapers are full of reports and official messages, time comes to day 7, you wonder if its actually the same game!
I fully support it.
The CoW player base is not adequate to support all the 100 player
maps that are started.
Surprisingly, in contrast, the 50 player America Homefront maps seem
to keep one or two dozen active players involved for weeks.
Perhaps due to having 5 cities with IC vs. four on the 100 player maps?
During the period where the the America Homefront maps
had early research completed at game start, there was even greater
participation.
Do you know this for a fact?WayneBo wrote:

To me it seems the 100's fill up within 24 hours easily. If there were more people who played and didn't drop, these games wouldn't last 30-35 days but maybe 40-45 days.
So if my theory is close to being right, you may have less 100 games but they would last a little longer and all would be well in the universe.
exactly the point, too few players, too many 100P games.ike53 wrote:

the only reason so many fill up is all the 'one-and-done' players that test this site, then quit.
I think part of the difference is that the 100 player map is promoted to the new players when they reach level 8 (or whichever level it is when the 100 unlocks) with a nifty pop up on their screen in the middle of their game.
This gets a lot of people to try them out. Sadly many of these people arenβt ready for the pace of a real game yet. In a typical tutorial you can check in once a week and perhaps make some progress against the person next to you who plays twice a week. A competitive 100 doesnβt give you that chance usually.
I suppose you could have them answer a couple quiz questions first and see if they are ready, lol. Even then people would join to try it and forget to come back.

A 100 player game with minimum level 70 sounds good to me..
With regards to drop out players, they should be forced to play the game or surrender their fast food privileges for one full month. They would only be able to play the cold war map and only be seeded with Chinese megalomaniacs, or Koreans.
Alternatively they would also be highlighted as drop out players on COW if they do this five times in a row. This will allow serious players to check out who is playing a map round and then be able to determine if they should enter the game.

perhaps a small reward for any player still online when they get defeated, eg: get the "DEFEATED" text, perhaps 100 gold or something, just for people who have been active till their defeat
Good idea, some people just um... leaves. We should get awards for being activeFUNGUS_TE_FIRST wrote:

Why level 70? I'm level 46 and have better stats and more game knowledge then the average level 70. Level isn't everything. If you would say from level 30 or 40 I'd understand.bigboss_ironfist wrote:

Level 30 sounds like a good place to start a minimum. Another potential cause is the pop-ups for other games that typically advertise 100p games. I was once on my phone trying to take care of my country, then the pop-up opened, next thing I know, I joined a 100p game unwillingly (probably partially due to lag in my case). But if we remove those immediate game invitations for those large games, they may become more stable. Then we may have to think about players joining late, in which the best response might be to delay the game start till it reaches (I don't know) 60 players.
If we could implement the following, the games might improve:
- 5 game limit on actively running games for a player still alive (cannot join another game if 2 are in the first week)
- Eliminate other game pop-up invitations (they can recommend it, but cannot forward a player to another game)
- Level 30 minimum requirement for 50p maps and larger
- Delay these large games starting point to 60% full
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."
I put level 70 just it sounded like a big enough number. I guess someone that level would not abandon game, that not mean he has great knowledge of game.
Maybe I am a slow, but I felt like I know game when I reached level 80 or something and I am still learning
Man learns whole life and at the end he dies stupid.
There are also players who make new profiles so they have low level but high stats and knowledge of game....
I play 6-10 maps on a same time.Lukenick wrote:

Maybe a ultra Radical idea, but if you join 3 games in a week and you leave all them you get a 5 day ban? Or something on that note?
I totally agree with all you say. When you start a 100 player map as the first you have a big advantage compared to the one that joined last.Lukenick wrote:

With these revisions, it might increase interest in these maps, or at least make them more competitive.

Wow. I must say there are a lot of good idea out there on this one!
I guess this is something all players would like to see happen in some sort or fashion.
I do think raising the level for the big games should help a little with the quick exits.
Maybe COW could get some stats on drops and figure something better out that we haven't discussed.
I do not think so. That is too strict, because most players will not know unless admin staff send them a notification. I think that maybe they will decrease their level.hakijaa wrote:

- Decrease level
- Warn them and give them penalty
- Put a maximum game joined
