Game Timers

This might just be me, but I feel like the automatic game endings have ruined the game a little bit. Every once in a while, me and my friends all join an alliance game and play in these crazy games that have crazy betrayals, massive wars and are a lot of fun. Our first ever game lasted 100 days (we all sucked.) It was crazy fun, as we had tons of skirmishes, one day wars, stalemates, stuff like that. Pretty realistic of what it would look like if a very divided Europe went to war. If not realistic, very fun. But now, as some of us have gotten better and others have not, the games end much quicker. However, right now we are in a very divided game with a lot of coalitions and it feels like we might not have enough time left (19 days) to get a clear winner. In my opinion, adding timers to games, at least alliance matches, puts a lot of pressure on countries to attack earlier and limits the game. For example, there are not big wars against massive superpowers with huge, advanced armies in Europe games. Nukes are useless in these games pretty much, because by the time you get them you won't have much time left. I'm not saying they need to let games last over 100 days again, and I'm not sure why they changed it, but I feel like 35 days to win a game ruins some of the epic battles you could have. I think they should allow people, at least in alliance games when you can't choose any bigger maps and where less games are made, to customize the amount of days maybe to 45-55 days instead.

Since bystro is encouraging the pre-teen crowd on their mobile fones,

the drop out rate has increased to the point that limiting games to

30 or so days is necessary to reduce server load.

look for even shorter day limit in the future.

makes sense, but from my experience and I feel like others, alliance games are more constistently active and could benefit from having longer run times.

A fixed runtime is necessary to prevent lag and incompatibilities from old game versions.

The runime depends on the map actually, bigger maps have longer runtimes. According to our stats the vast majority of games finishes well before the fixed runtimes.

I understand that it limits super long lasting games. But having a last big battle before the timer runs out can also be exciting though, like a last push. I mean we see the same thing in alot of sports as well, where games become suddenly alot more tense shortly before the game end.

Yeah I understand. I didn't really know how many games there were since you changed the rules to High Command only. But would it be feasible to do it for coalition games since they're likely a lot less common and a lot more active?

Yeah sometimes it's fun, but in my experience a lot of time it speeds the game up and leaves big coalition to get lazy and just protect their land because they know they will win. Right now, I'm in a 2 person coaliton going up against a 3 coalition group who's winning. They have no reason to get into a war and make themselves vulnerable. Just makes the game static. Also forces us into a war we not ready for because the games gonna end soon and we want to win.
