In the broadest sense anyone who differ from the "normal" body build can be seen as intersex.

just in case the OP has frustration at the extent of off-topic replies in her thread, I wanted to reply to say the raised issue is known to staff and something we do think about. Indeed from the day you raised it in chatroom [which was noted in staff channel] we have thought about it.

As yet I have not seen any other female gamer in COW express the same opinion... if/when they do I will notice that too.

Then tell me, how is having a penis and a vagina psychological? And I forgot that hormones and body build is just in our minds. And we shouldn't forget that male chromosomes and a vagina is just imaginary. If you want to say stupid stuff, do it. But don't say wrong and stupid stuff. Ask someone who studied biology and more specific sex biology. Tell them, that they're only two sex. You will be laughed at.

Yes if I told someone "they're only two sex" I would be laughed at because that statement makes no sense grammatically.

Time to revive this thread. I have just gained first place in a world map. It took a long time, I doubt I was the most skilled player on the map, but I think I was the most determined. This is the message posted in the WH to congratulate me.

Sorry, but this just does not sit well with me. I'm not a man, I don't want to be a man. Can this message be made gender neutral please?

I know I have brought this matter up before, but as nothing was done I assume it is thought to be unimportant. I enjoy playing this game, but things like this really spoil it. Surely it can be corrected.

im just wondering if the op was trying to gain attention to the fact that he won a game, or that she is a woman, or that he won he game as a woman, or he beat some men at the game?

Also, let me point out that there are more messages that refer to players in the masculine, so changing anything will mean changing all those messages. And, there was a forum message from staff that said they would look into changing messages like the one in question if even one more female spoke out. Reading the forum, I have found no other complaints.

I have empathy to a very slight degree for the op, but it is tempered by common sense.Why should a videogame step into this great gender debate? Would it not make more sense for the staff to spend their time/resources on bug fixes and other projects to make the game more enjoyable for the whole community, rather than cater to one lone whiner?

Perhaps due to a large audience when anything is programmed it should be considered, for the benefit of keeping players. A simple if statement when a game is won If(Profile gender=Female, Message 1 ,else message 2). If the 1st two 22 player maps I played are any indication, we only keep around 10% of the people who try it. If it turned out to be an easy fix, why would you want to have another dissatisfied customer, especially one who stuck it out this long? Killing AI's all game is boring.

So I am a whiner, thanks at least I know where I stand. I am not trying to draw attention to myself at all, I am just pointing out that I found the message disrespectful. If I had agreed to play as a man then fair enough, but that was not the case. Maybe nobody else has spoken out, they just disappeared. I am not one to suffer in silence. I am fast getting the impression I am really not welcome here by some. Maybe it is time to go.

I am about as unsympathetic to proposed changes to the English language for reasons of political correctness as you can imagine, and I will never support the "xe" nonsense proposed by some social-engineering whackos. That said, I see the issue raised by Lizzy as one of an entirely different character; it is one of basic courtesy. The problem here is one of uniform computer programming, and the issue is easily resolved with better programming. It would be relatively easy to add a layer of programming that recognizes all players as male or female, based on the players having ticked a gender box (please, let's just keep it to two genders: male or female) on their player profile. All generic, automatically generated messages could then be tailored with the appropriate gender-specific pronouns in English or any other language. This is not exactly rocket surgery, as it is done every day in a variety of business and social contexts across a wide variety of software platforms.

This may not be the highest priority for the game developers, but it should be added to their to-do list to be addressed in the future.
