Infantry too expensive

It's now day 19 in my first game of Call of War, and the longer I play the more it seems to me that infantry are just too expensive to build and maintain in this game - heck, maybe all units are too expensive - but infantry is the standout.

By day 16 or 17 I reached my highest yet number of infantry units with a mere 43. I then fought my first and only substantial land battle so far, and lost 10 infantry, so here it is at day 19 and I have only about 35 infantry units! As if that weren't bad enough, I can only build another 2 or 3 a day to replace battle losses.

It's hard to see how you could sustain any sort of campaign against a competent human player without both of you rapidly running out of units to fight with.

That is not the only problem with low infantry numbers though. I am currently playing as Italy, Italy has a long coastline and islands to defend and even with a picket line of just one unit in each of my border provinces (not including coastal provinces), coastal cities and islands would cost me 28 infantry or 3/4ths of my infantry. I would have virtually none left to mount an offensive with! And of course you really need more than one unit to defend your vital urban areas.

It's pretty hard to come to any conclusion other than that you can't build enough infantry in this game.

I am also finding that I am building more tanks than infantry now because they are cheaper in manpower, it is totally ahistorical of course to be building more tanks than infantry and using elite tank units just to defend a border, but that's what this game forces you to do. Now, I can understand the game developers allowing you to build more mechs than was historically the case on the basis that many gamers might find mechs "cooler" and more fun to play with than infantry, but to actually make them easier to build than infantry is crossing a red line in my view. If infantry cost half as much to maintain as they do now, you could still build plenty of mechs but have twice as many infantry to bulk out your army. Even twice as many though, wouldn't leave you with much of an army, especially when losses take such a long time to replace. So it looks increasingly to me that unit build and maintenance costs need a revamp.

I agree with you infantry is indeed far too expensive to make and maintain in terms of manpower, although a tank crew consist of 5 men and an infantry squad consist of 10 men, the tank have higher survivability than an infantry and infantry have the highest casualty rate. It's resonable that tanks are cheaper in terms of manpower but infantry should not be expensive, personally I prefer he infantry than the tank using to support them (personal play style)

I play Italy as well, may I suggest to use subs or destroyers and anti-air guns to protect your coast, I know it's expensive but that way an invasion from the sea is impossible, northern Italy is mountainous with fortifications and a defence force they won't easily attack you, it can also serve a backdrop when you fail. This way you can leave your coastline empty, mount an offensive, and sleep peacefully knowing you won't be attack from the sea or land although I can't promise you won't be bomb from planes so make those anti-air.

Actually, I was attacked a few days ago. It could have been nasty as I had neither a navy nor an airforce when first attacked and thus no means of defending against the enemy's fleets. He killed quite a few of my units with naval bombardments before I was able to respond. I had to crash build an airforce (mostly naval bombers) and it turns out to be a very handy method of defending a long coastline like Italy's as you can switch your bombers from one region to another in an hour or two. That's something you can't do with a navy or army. You just have to build enough airbases for your planes to be able to rebase by air.

Having said that, I would like this thread to stay focused on the topic of unit build cost and not become a thread about strategy, so it's probably best if we end this digression here.
