Jump-in for inactive for Gold

One of the issues we all know are the inactive players, especially in alliance matches.

I would propose that you can join a match even long after it started to "take the place" of an inactive player [the inactive player would not be proposed if weaker than XXX]. If you manage to save the situation, you get an increasing but small amount of gold for every day your survive - not enough to have players really exploiting the feature, but enough to make you care for survival.

You can join a maximum of 1-2 such matches at the same time, to avoid exploits.

better join an alliance if you want to play team games

or you could just play a "jump" game without the gold reward.

While I have the time, I try to keep one "jump" game active at all times. It is interesting to see the variety of tech levels and generally folks appreciate someone who walks up and fills an otherwise empty seat.

If all of us forum actives kept one "jump" game going, we would likely see more active players. Easy way to build the player base.

Of course, you should accept that those games will likely hurt your overall standings but, really, who puts a lot of emotional energy into their rankings in an on-line game? It's a game. It's on-line. It is somewhere behind most of life and slightly ahead of taking out the garbage on the priority list.

Inactive players can be booted by the game host. This creates openings in games that have been developing for days / weeks.

When I am Game Host (randomly assigned or started the game), I make it clear that folks going inactive will get booted unless they explicitly state they are coming back with a drop dead date.

Those open spots are then available for play. They might not be optimum positions but the game is likely active and the folks on the map will likely be fun to play with.

Just look for the older games that have open spots. I also select for "free choice" maps so I can see if the country is even playable before jumping in.

Only bad experience doing this so far is a player who got his nose bent on one map and followed me to another map for revenge, along with trash talk and such. Not my style of play, so I just walked. It is a game, not a decision about gender reassignment.

I make a very prominent announcement in the in-game newspaper to that effect, with a 24-hour advance warning: check in during the next 24 hours, or you will be removed. I never want to remove a player without giving them fair warning and an opportunity to rejoin the game. Real life gets in the way from time to time.

Jumped in an alliance map that had started 5 days earlier, no sure if taking the place of an inactice. Map was European. France and UK were allied against Germany - Poland. All their troops were massed and / or fighting on the Netherlands / German border.

Joined as a German allied, attacked through the Alps against absolutely no defense, occupied Southern France without any resistance, currently waltzing in Paris as the French player is trying to bring whatever wounded units he can find to defend.

Great experience - would do again !
