It's come to my attention that alliance rankings are filled up with alliances. This is because a level 1 player comes, creates an alliance, then leaves the game. I think all alliances that have no members and the leader has not been on for a long time and is a noob should be exterminated.

House cleaning is in order.
Either a cut off timer that removes a player/alliance from listings after 3 months or a "bleed" that subtracts some small percentage (1% - 5%) of points every month from all players/alliances. This would keep the rankings fresh.

House-cleaning is obviously needed. Get it done.

Ugh... got a noob player in the game.
Usually I am fine with that. Point them at the excellent sources of information here, try to guide them a bit. You know, grow another player.
Then I see these stats:
50 games joined
203 provinces captured
334 provinces lost
member since June of last year.
I am trying to wrap my mind around how this has happened. Two games a week, abandoned after the first few days?
At some point, should there be way to filter new game sign up by level / rank? Either this is one lost soul or someone with a malicious desire to create dead games. Struggling to see other options.

Yup. You've got a "joiner" there. I'm still embarrassed by the two games I joined (out of 18 total, to date) and then dropped out because I had too much else going on.
I would say, however, that I believe Bytro could eliminate some of the game joining followed by quick drop-outs if they made it easier to get more information about a particular game. I am absolutely convinced that some relatively new players join games just to get a look at a real game, and even some more experienced players will join a game to get a look at the particular conditions to see if a particular match is favorable. There also should be a more aggressive mechanism for removing and replacing players who don't satisfy a minimum level of activity in the first 12 to 24 hours of a game.
