I am not colourblind but I can imagine how frustrating it might be.

Little 2 suggestions, might be easy to do
Please please please:
1) Pins, pins, pins. Yes I know there are more units now, but there are also quite a big amount of geometric shapes 
2) Colorblind mode. Me and I know few guys that can have trouble with some color combinations. I know it seems crazy 2 u normal people but ... 
Would b great.

I don't have that issue myself but some of my friends are like that, so Id approve of such a measure.

There is a chrome application I remember from a few years ago called "Chrome Daltonize" which is still around. It might help with this, and other situations, but I have no first hand experience of this extension... Although it is quite old, and may have some issues.
There is also a "Color Enhancer" extension that helps for the partially colourblind by allowing altering of visual settings.

They did, when you hover over a unit, a little pin pops up over its position. It is blackish/gray.
