Map proposal - Russian Civil War
I think the Russian Civil War would match pretty well, and it would have a nice twist with 2 variation.
One variation could have all the players on the edge of the map, and the middle being the "Red // Bolchevik", an Elite AI super power that would initially be attacked by all sides by the players that would need to cooperate... until they tear themselves apart.
Of course, some players further away from the Red initially could exploit that
In which case, player faction could be (roughtly counter-clockwise) :
Finland
Baltic Freikcorps in the Baltic States https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freikorps_in_the_Baltic
Poland
Romania
Ukraine
Machnovista
Turkey
Southern Whites
Cossacks
Transcaucasian Republic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcaucasian_Democratic_Federative_Republic
Bukhara
Khiva
Iran ?
Czech Legion
Komuch
China (or some of its warlord faction)
Mongolia
Eastern White (=Provisional All Russian Government)
Chita Republic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_Eastern_Republic
Historically, there are some discrepancies (typically the Czech Legion was long gone by the time the Chita Republic was around) but well, it would work.
Another variant would be to divide the Red into red-subfactions, with Green AI players in between.
Finally, a last variant would be a team game, with :
- In the middle, the Red alliance. Advantage : United. Weakness : Less rich territories overall.
- On the external, the Nationalistic Alliance. Advantage : Only one front. Weakness : Very hard to coordinate as the Nationalistic individual countries are scattered.
- Between those two layers, the White Alliance. Advantage : Still united, richer countries. Weakness : Between 2 enemies.
