Good idea, but already too many units, plus paras and marines are comin' out soon.
Mercenaries?
I don't officially know if there were mercenaries in WW2, but I know the French Foreign Legion were in ww2 and you COULD classify them as mercenaries. Just thought it would be a good idea, instead of having to spend a day or 2 to deploy a new unit, why not deploy a mercenary? It might be over powered, but you could make it cost a lot of money and make troops who battle with the mercenaries loose morale easier. Just throwing some ideas around

Aren't Militia basically mercenaries?

No. They are not professional soldiers, they are old men and youngsters running around with weapons they can barely use.

In this case they are the same.
Irregular forces fighting for one side but not being necessarily attached, the Soviet UNion did this with it's Partisan movement.

Bull. Dave, you should know from the American War of Independence. A mercenary fights for whoever gives the bigger check. Militia fights for their country. I don't remember Dad's Army being paid to fight for the Axis...

The Home guard did get paid. I also know the difference between Militia and Mercenaries. I said they are the same kind of thing because they are Irregular forces fighting against a given country or something. Finally I'm not sure if this is what your on about but the home guard wasn't militia it was like the U.S. national guard.

I never said they didn't get paid. I said they were never paid to fight for a foreign power. Anyway, I'm going stop so I don't get in trouble for going OT.comrade dave wrote:

I know they weren't they have nothing to do with militia or mercenaries.
Anyway, good idea if we want to get somewhere good with the new group then we'd best go back to topic.Butter Ball Bill wrote:

Maybe mercenaries can be already existing units that can be bought, but are very expensive and have a high money upkeep.

Would we have to give them ammo and food too or will they steal from the local populace?

just suggesting ideas, also what about horse cavalry. sounds outdated but some nations did use horse cavalry during WW2.

That cavalry was then slaughtered. It would basically be the Armoured Car unit.

They buy it themselves with the money we pay them!Butter Ball Bill wrote:

Where do they buy it? This is Europe(a place where gunships are hard to come by) during a war. You know what European civilians do during a war? They run away.GreatbigHippo wrote:

Nope.

See those sacks on the cart? Probably blankets and food.

The mercenaries are probably smart enough to buy enough food before they go to the front lines to last them a long time.

They are mercs. Hired guns. Food or no, they have no ammo, little to no transportation, no discipline and little to no heavy weaponry. They could steal a lot from the enemy but first they have to kill the enemy without destroying the stuff they want.

I've always found it more amusing to supply mercenaries forces to other engagements directly. Just get them from other players, it gives you some units and he can get some xp with units they'd otherwise just have sitting around.
