Merchant raider

Merchant raiders would appear as regular transports until engaged in combat, could mix with transports or send alone as bait/decoys. If possible also give them the ability to fly a false flag until attacked or attacking. Give about half the attack range of a cruiser.

I agree that there should be a merchant raider because they were an essential part of naval warfare. They would deal the same or less damage than a destroyer. They would be faster than most ships. Being able to outrun other combatant ships swiftly.

They did exist, Disguised as neutral-nation freighters but packing a hidden punch, Germany’s merchant raiders bedeviled the Royal Navy during both world wars.

I am sorry buth isnt that same thing as convoy is? And no country other then myb axis countrys would ever change flag on their ship. It is very big thing to put different countrys flag on your ship in real world even in world war times.

There was no need for other countries to do that. Japan was on par with the Americans and the British had absolute naval dominance.

Well, merchant raider didn't really exist during WW2.

But that's not a "raider" or a "merchant".

It's a decoy ship with depth charges for stopping subs.

You are so wrong.

Then what is it?

It's not a merchant ship, and it doesn't "raid" anything, it sits there and attacks a submarine that is tricked.

If it were a merchant raider it would attack surface ships but the Q boat which you mentioned is described in an ASW role by wikipedia.
