Would it be possible to make Navy Patrols, instead of having them sitting idle? and/or if the do spot an advisory the naval patrol would shadow them?
I had a large pack of Chinese Submarines and transports go through my line of destroyers while I was off line, and to my surprise my coastline was invaded

unfortunately, closest thing we have to that is automatic fire, it's behind HC though, so to support the game and have as great a feature as that, I suggest you get it if you can spare the money

I have an interesting tactic I will share with you all;
On my last 100 player map with friends, I played as Germany and controlled the entire Reich: UK and USSR included. To that end, I needed to defend my coast line. Using subs and my fleets, I worked out if I used the 'set target' order, I could chain link units on a certain path. I used my subs to shadow my larger fleets, and even found a French fleet I thought I'd destroyed.

I tried that before, patrolling along the Spanish-French Mediterranean coast. I had them run up for about a day and a half, then decided it wasn't worth it since it was only 1 DD.

Fair enough so, I didn't much care for this match as I knew we had lost as soon as I compared teams (it was an alliance match).
