New Building: Radar Station

I most games it's very hard to place units along the borders, you need them to watch if there is an enemy coming. Troops are rare and need more at the front-line.

Maybe it's an idea to build radar station in cities. The can work like the balloon from Supremacy but fixed. To make it hard to spam this buildings along the coast, they need a up-keep from maybe 100t oil per day.

Good idea, but there is already not enough oil on the map. For what would a radar station need oil? It could use manpower and money as permanent upkeep, and of course one must be able to deactivate it.

I like the idea but i agree Oil is to hard of a resource.

I like the idea of a radar installation. Oil is usually in short supply, but a building like this is quite worth it

I like the idea, but the upkeep should be realistic, unfortunately electricity is not a resource so what about money as a permanent upkeep.

You need a electric generator for the radar, this is normally works with oil.

If you have a problem with oil, build less Tanks and more Infantry. ;)

I think the deactivation is hard to implement, because you only switch on for 10 minutes to have a look around and than switch off. Maybe the upkeep is reduced from stock for the next 24h at day-switch. Another idea is that the radar needs time to activate, maybe 30min to work, like the refuel by planes?

Sounds nice, maybe if it runs on goods and money. What would it's range be?

300ish km? Around the same range as a tac 1 bomber

Sounds good.

NO, much less range! WΓΌrzburg radars had about a 90km range, and they were the best at the time.

The past is a foreign country.

I have a suggestion for this issue ...instead of a stationary structure that would only have a certain range of aerial monitoring only and require continuing resource demands ..

why not a new unit instead

an armored recon vehicle squadron , infantry LRRP (long range recon patrol) to scout ahead but not for combat

that could be moved around to wherever you need and just need research and perhaps a small size with a much smaller unit creation resource cost.

if you need something faster perhaps an awacs or recon plane...

or small cost / str land units that could be observation posts

what do you think????

Give us some examples, then we can really look at the idea.

@MajorPain68

We play in a historic time from 1935 to to 1950, so I thing these LRRP isn’t a unit for this game. If you want a mobile recon unit so use the armoured car with planes together. The idea was, that we need a scouting building that don't coast manpower to upkeep.

I think a good range for the radar will be β‰ˆ120km, it must be less than the marine bomber level 1 can fly but more than the armoured car can see.

How about incremental levels from around 90 to 270 with building levels?

sounds good for me

I like it, just make sure it costs several Rare Materials :)

Rare materials for a radar? Yeah I think planes can do a more cost effective job. I was thinking, of a viable upkeep and cost, maybe a similar price with the air base.

I think what we should discuss more is WHAT is should detect. Infantry is out of the question. Planes can definitely be detected. The question is: Ships can?

The past is a foreign country.

No, they go below the radar I think. Although you can get sea radars, I don't think they had them then since squadrons would be scrambled because of birds.

Hi, I think it must be detect every kind of troops in range, because it's to hard to implement when we want a difference between army, navy and air-force. Maybe if it's possible it will be nice if all units only get an ? and only a direction.

No. Only aircraft.
